Space Shuttle Discovery
About 2 weeks ago I struck gold by finding set 7470 on Ebay very cheap, this is the result of piecing the beauty back together! Enjoy.

Boy, this thing was an absolute BLAST to build. I haven't had this much fun building a space related build since my SpaceX Rover back during FebRovery. I had to order a small number of parts to finish it, but $20 and my first BrickLink order later, it was complete!

Space Shuttle Discovery

The major modifications to this included tiling the wings and roof, changing the rear tailfin designs, and adding detailing to the Shuttle. Lots of work went into just the black parts on the back of the wings, about 2 1/2 hours of cutting electrical tape for that.

Space Shuttle Discovery - Left

Overall, 2 weeks of work and around $50 for the set and parts is what was put into this thing, I couldn't ask for it to be any better!

Space Shuttle Discovery - Back

Also, it's mighty swooshable! :D

Special thanks to one of my friends on Flickr for editing the photo, he showed me some stuff in Photoshop that I didn't know about. I love this edit, it's freaking awesome!

Hope you guys like this, I may edit this page with a video of me swooshing it! :D

Comments, feedback, and ratings are appreciated.

Thanks!

I own this set, but unfortunately when I was young I let it fall apart and I have not pieced it together again. Be careful, those old stickers peel off easily and leave a dark residue on the bricks. I highly appreciate your mods to the set, the smooth top adds to the appearance greatly.

I got that set as a Christmas present when I was young. It was a great set! Nice find!

What a deal! When I was younger, I remembered that I wanted that set so bad! My dad and I scoured Amazon and eBay, but the set always came out at over $100, and I ended up not buying it. Of course, I wouldn't miss the opportunity again, and when Lego released their first Shuttle (Adventure) I bought it up quickly. Only complaint I had with the Discovery Set is that it has not external fuel tanks of boosters. Maybe you can add those on ;-). Anyways, nice catch! 5/5

Quoting Reaper the Ultimate . Oh WOW! You got the GOOD space shuttle (and the parts to modify it) for only $50?! (US $ right? It would cost more here :(.) You've modified the exterior quite nicely, and the overall shape is very good. I'd love to see the interior, and you swooshing it. That'd be cool.
I'm afraid that there isn't an interior (yet). The satellite was non-existent when I bought the model, and I wasn't going to spent the money to rebuild it, at least not at the current moment. The swooshing vid shall come soon!

Quoting TheLegoNoitAll . Excellent mods! and man $30 for that set? that probably wasn't a good move on that guys part, considering the set was much more, and it will skyrocket within the next few years. very swooshable? sounds much better than the set was before, for me just a soft tap would destroy half the set!
Thanks! The set was incomplete when I bought it, but I knew that the guy didn't know what he had. It came disassembled and it took me a good 2 days to find the parts in my collection, I took out some of the playability features in favor of detailing, and I like it. The set is fun to fly around, swooshing is fun. :D

Great build! I love it. The work with the electrical tape was worth it -- the control surfaces on the wings look great.
