1969 Dodge Charger Daytona
Good grief, not another Daytona. Why, after two previous NASCAR versions? Um, because they were NASCAR versions, and not the street legal version which would allow for a more "normal" color scheme and more detail. Has old Nate finally gone "George Lucas" on us? Is he losing his grip on what's original, and what's repetitive? Is he losing his mind now? If he's talking about himself in the third person, then the answer to all of these is probably "Yes".
About this creation

Still some obvious Johannes R. influence in the nose and spoiler...

Great shape. I can't decide if it looks like a bullet, or a shark.

It's a bulletshark...?

Check out my clever(ish) use of a 1 x 8 rail plate as the front splitter.

Not sure what's going on with the lighting in some of these shots. :(

The classic Hemi engine. It probably would've looked better if I had used orange plates like I did on one of my previous Chargers, but my collection of orange is very limited. Which is ironic, because I live in Florida.

Florida? Orange? Haha... ha... uh...

What was supposed to be an epic angled shot instead looks like a blue Daytona driving down a really steep hill.

I keep asking myself...

Why this car's getting bigger and bigger. And then....

It HITS me.

Everything's open...

Nailed it.

"So, what's it like out there on the track?"

"Oh, same old same old. Loud and fast. What's it like back on the streets?"

"Yeah, same old same old. Also loud and fast."

*awkward silence*

GAAAAAAHHH!!!! What's THIS old thing still doing around?! Okay, okay. I haven't really needed the parts for anything, but in the four and a half years I've had this one together, I've also become slightly attached to it. Or maybe really attached. Come on, we've all been there.

When I started building the blue Daytona, I decided to bring the old NASCAR version up to date so I could include it along with the street legal version. Did I just pull a double George Lucas on you?

Oh, yes I did.

The first exhaust pipes I've ever made with bricks and plates instead of pneumatic tubing.

I like how the open bases of the 1 x 1 grey bricks look like exhaust openings.

This engine only differed slightly from the one in the street legal car. At least visually. Or at least not so you'd notice, if somebody built it in LEGO. Shutting up.

Nailed it. Twice?

As always, thanks for viewing! And for not screaming at me, or pulling your hair out, if you managed it. I know it's hard.

Did you know the dodge factory sent 1969 Charger R/Ts to the Creative or something like that industries and made them into daytonas, same with superbirds but they used roadrunners for them. Also nascar BANNED daytonas and superbirds (and the hemi engines too) because they went to fast in mid-to-late 70s. Knowledge is everything :D

Definitely nailed them both, especially at this relatively small scale.

Very cool, indeed! The side view is extremely close to the original and the use of the guide rail is very clever. It looks a little like a cuboid in the front and rear view, though. Some "cheese wedges" could do some magic, there... Anyway, well done! :-))

Quoting TheLegoNoitAll . Nice build! I like the basic old school design of this! :D For a second when i saw the old one, i was thinking 'couldn't bother to make a new design' til you said it was updated too ;) The undercarriage of both versions is awesome! :D
Thanks! I originally posted the old NASCAR version way back in October of 2008, and it looked very different then. Not nearly as good as it does now!
