This atmospheric transport is one of the most versatile flying vehicles available.
About this creation
When it was first conceived as a partnership between Ian & Hammersby and Ranger Shipbuilding, the Sky Sloop was intended to be a luxurious yacht for atmospheric travel. With its luxurious, wood-paneled interior and ease of operation, it would be perfect for the travel of the rich. However, the Sky Sloop fell mostly flat among its intended audience. Instead, the rapidly decreasing value made it available to all sorts of freighter pilots, traders, and passenger carriers, who appreciated its large cargo room, tilt-rotor VTOL capabilities, and high speed. Inevitably, though, these attributes have endeared the Sky Sloop to smugglers and arms dealers. The Sloop is able to carry plenty of illegal cargo past government checkpoints without being caught, the tilt-rotors allow it to easily land in secret lairs, and the spacious windows and undercarriage give ample room for concealed weaponry. Besides these factors, though, another aspect of the Sky Sloop is even more beneficial to smugglers. Law enforcement officers are usually reluctant to interfere with the influential rich. In a craft with the cachet of wealth that the Sky Sloop still carries, a smuggler is likely to be let past without a search and seizure. Despite the use of Sky Sloops by criminals, though, plenty are still operated by lawful, if not wealthy, citizens.
This example is owned by Jeb Watkins, a commercial charter pilot from Port Jefferson. For a fee, time-conscious passengers or important cargo can be hauled anywhere in the Martian atmosphere, with little to no interference from authorities.
Despite its present utilitarian task, this Sky Sloop still preserves a few trappings of luxury. No matter where you may have landed for the night, a warm bed can make up for quite a lot.
The combination of a fast, luxurious passenger vessel and a capacious transport has yielded great success for the Sloop. Although there are many transports flying on planets around the system, the Sky Sloop has outdistanced most of its competitors.
