About this creation
About the MOC
Rodney was another "preplanned" MOC for me. I had the concept of a MOC in a wheel chair for a little while before actually building the MOC. However, the concept originally was somewhat different. He originally was going to have four arms, and a more beast like head with a mouth and teeth, his name was going to be "Kumpel" which has one meaning of "friend" or "buddy," and his color scheme was going to be blue, Violate, and black. After purchasing 8494-Ring Of Fire off ebay I simply had to use the parts with the stickers on them, which drastically changed the landscape of this MOC. I lost the four arms and beast-like head but was able to more heavily incorporate the racing influence I wanted him to have, as well as incorporating another concept I had for a while, which was having internal suspension within the MOC's body. I had conceptualized this as being either in the thighs, shins or torso. Seeing as how Rodney is a paraplegic, the torso was the only place this would work. It also made building his torso a lot easier. :P

Overall I'm very happy with how this MOC came out. I took my time and waited for some parts to arrive. Rodney took me about two "sessions" or days to build and the chair came together surprisingly quicker in one session/day.

I gave him the name I did because after building him, he felt more relatable and human than any other MOC I've made, therefore I wanted him to have a more normal name. I picked the names based on my usual method of researching the meaning and origins of a name.

Bio
Rodney is a paraplegic athletic robot who specialized in motor sports, but would also partake in athletic based sports. He loved any sport that was physically intense, be it Football(American), rugby, soccer, basket ball, hockey(he preferred Inc Hockey), tennis, etc. When it came to motorsports though if it went fast, he could jump it or do stunts on it he loved it. He was fiercely competitive in any arena.

During a cross country rally race Rodney got caught up in a nasty accident that killed several other competitors and left him critically damaged and paralyzed throughout most of his body. Rodney was fortunate enough to have sponsors that would pay for the expensive surgeries that would return the use of his limbs back to him. The mechanical doctors weren't able to repair Rodney's body in one go, it required many that had to be prioritized from his internal functions, to upper motor control, then to lower motor control. Once his internal functions and the use of his arms were returned to him, Rodney started using a wheelchair for mobility.
His competitive nature eventually found its way into this aspect of his life as well. He initially was going to compete in disabled sports that were very much underground events until he could have the procedures that would fix his legs done, but after competing in these events and succeeding with flying colors, he started his own major league for disabled sports. This new league brought forth many of the disabled athletes who couldn't afford the repairs they needed to be fixed, those who were dropped by their sponsors from the major league sports, or simply other major league athletes who received similar injuries.
The Disabled Sports Leage(DSL) was a huge success, many of the corporate sponsors that financed other major sports were now supporting athletes even in their disabled states. Many of the competitors were able to receive the financial support they needed and sought their repairs, some taking inspiration from Rodney opted to remain disabled and help support the league that in turn supported them.
Rodney for a period of time had to quit competing in the DSL to manage the league. During this period he grew very unhappy. He decided to turn the league over to his former manager, promoting him to CEO, leaving Rodney free to return to the league as a competitor.

Quoting Johann Dakitsch Very cool, I like the concept, and the execution is quite nice, has that classic technic feel we don't see so often.
Thanks once again. I agree, I think that comes from me using a Lego Racers set, and his wheelchair being mostly technic parts. I did use a lot of technic on this MOC. I wanted him to have that racing/sporty kind of feel and technic does that well.

Quoting Clever Crowe Epic concept, epic custom head. Think this idea'd be pretty hard to abide by chosen colorscheme but you totally pulled it off. Nice, man!
Thanks CC. What do you mean by "hard to abide by chosen colorscheme?" This color scheme is actually super easy to use. Lego used it a couple times in their racers theme. The set I use the stickered parts from are the reason I switched from the original plannec color scheme to this.

Quoting Coconut Fanatic Can he stand on his own?
He can, but not very easily. I purposefully made his legs skinny to look more like they're atrophied. I gave him a paraplegic physique, strong upper body, weakened lower body. But yes he can stand on his legs if I carefully balance him.
