T-16 Skyhopper UCS
Hi everyone, it's me again with another MOC. Thank you all for the comments on my last MOC, my custom UCS Millennium Falcon, they really helped me when I was building this new UCS style MOC. After I bought en build my first ever original UCS set (the X wing that just came out)I wanted to build something in the same style... but which fighter to build? The answer came when I was going trough all my Lego instructions, here I stumbled upon a set that a got back in 2003: the T16-skyhopper setnumber 4477. I guess that it's the one of the few sets that never saw an update over the years... perfect to build my own UCS style version of it, for it's 10 year anniversary. The build had it's ups and downs (mostly downs in the beginning, since the frame wasn't capable to hold the weight of the top wing) but I got there in the end, so I proudly can present my UCS T16 Skyhopper. "Now I really can bullseye womprats with my T16 back home" ;) Please rate and comment. I hope you enjoy!
About this creation
Since I stumbled on the instructions of the original set, I thought it would be nice to rebuild it as well, so there you go. You can see that the shape is nowhere near the original model in the movies:

And here it is. It took me about a month to build this, including the waiting of parts, which were mostly tiles. I wanted to go for a smooth look like the UCS Imperial Shuttle.

Sideview: Custom griffin stickers. (Yes stickers, I know they are nothing like the old printed pieces, but it was the only possibility I got). These were custom made by me, with the help of my girlfriend.

Close up of the cockpit: I found different photo's on the web, some with a single seat, others with two seats. I went for the two seat version as you can see.

The console: I didn't find any pictures of this, so this is probably not like the model in the movies. The whole cockpit floor was tiled as well.

The lasercannon:

Rearview: The top picture is one of an official model, the one below the translation of it in Lego.

Sideview:

Another close up of the custom made stickers:

The two models next to eachother: quite a difference in size.

Thx! Yes some earlier models didn't get finished. Some of them didn't get finished because I wasn't happy with how they turned out, others committed suicide. The cockpit of the blockade runner rolled of the table, believe it or not... I just got down to pick up a brick that fell on the floor and when I got up I just saw it going over the edge... with a nasty crashlike sound just a moment later :( After the Falcon however, I finished up every model. I'm quite keen to finish my big Venator, my current project and my biggest to this day.
Quoting Dan the Man I swear that the original model (in your rearvbiew shot) actually has lego in it - if those aren't four 2x 45° slopes with 1x1 round plates on them, then what are they? By the way, despite the lack of commenting, I've just been through your models and am very impressed with what I see - just a shame it's a collection of stuff that only seems to get half-completed before the next project is started! - Dan

On the original model( reference picture you used), in the rear view the components look EXACTLY like lego pieces! Like it was lego before it was in star wars!

You got that model pretty close to the real thing. That back looks as if it were just screaming to be made in LEGO.

Good sir I doff my hat to you! This is stunning! All of your stuff is. Wow. I've always wanted to build a large T-16. Guess i'll just have to settle for polishing off my UCS scale T-65. You may be able to bullseye wamp rats, but I can hit a target that's ray shielded, and only two metres wide! :)

I know, I was stunned as well when I asked her to help me with the stickers and she said " sure no problem" ;)
Quoting matt rowntree I can't begin to imagine how frustrating that top wing was to engineer and balance! This is so stunningly beautiful and worthy of Cuusoo. It's brilliant to show the movie model as well as the original Lego version. Have to say, original Lego version needs to be lined up next to a womprat. You captured every detail perfectly and turned, what I always thought was one of the most awkwardly designed ships in SW, into a real gem. BTW a girlfriend that helps you with Lego? THAT'S A KEEPER!!!

This is awesome. I'm not the only one who thinks the same about the rear of the model. I thought it was LEGO at first.

This thing was made to be built in Lego. I thought the first shot of the rear, (the model's) was Lego. So many of the shapes back there look like Lego pieces. Anyway, great work on everything. 5/5

This is amazing! My Dad and I downloaded the instructions of Lego.com and built a copy of the original but I didn't have as many pieces as I do now so it didn't look right.

Thx all so much for the comments. The topwing was a challenge indeed. It consist of two sides connected to eachother to get "studs out" on both sides so I could tiles on both sides as well.

Definitely Lego set worthy! I'd put it on Cussoo if I was you. Also maybe change the main picture to one of your creation, it looks a lot better than the photo :) Great build!

Woah. This could pass as an Ultimat Collector's Model. Amazing job. I never really looked at how poorly done the playset's fin was.

What a strange looking ship: it must have been a real challenge to build that big top fin. The results look excellent and match up well to your official model.
