Super Sea Skimmer
Fun, fast and even more annoyingly noisy than a jet-ski!
About this creation

Employees of the Classic Space starships factories became so addicted to swooshing and zooming around on their Factory Hoppers that they wanted to spend their leisure time doing something similar. A group of engineers built the fastest, noisiest machine ever to blast across the water.

The Super Sea Skimmer had six jet engines and three rocket motors. Pilots had to wear ear plugs to prevent themselves from being deafened; so it was a good job that they hadn't bother to waste time fitting a radio.

Below is some archive footage of the spinny-round engine module. The rotation served no useful purpose: it was just fun.

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Haha, stylish! Love the configuration, the triple engine and skis look great. Are you back from the mountains? Great to see you building again.
Thank you! Yep, I'm back & building. I've this and another small build to post whilst I work out how to photograph the 86 stud long black & yellow delta wing that I've finally finished :)

It looks more fun than a quad bike, and about as dangerous... great stuff!

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) What... no regulation ear muffs!? :)
I'm afraid not, just blu-tac or cheese (brie works well I'm told) down the ear holes to keep the noise out!

Quoting Tim C Very nice work, David. Nice to see you working with ABS again. Very strong design. It's a nice touch with those tiles trailing out behind it. My favorite part is the propulsion. The rotation is a very nice feature there. Well done, David.
Thank you! It's great to be sitting on the floor of my loft and rummaging through piles of bricks again. This MOC started with me playing with the angle brackets and building the engines and carried on from there...

Quoting matt rowntree YESSS!!! I want one! However, I'd hate to see the results if some wayward whale happens to breach in front of it. Perhaps the engine noise scares wildlife away. Environmentally responsible AND fun. WIN WIN! BTW looks like you're back in the real plastic.
I live by the sea and my Sunday afternoons are often plagued by jet-bike noise. It's even scarier when you're out surfing and these fast and heavy machines are around. I totally agree that any self-respecting whale, dolphin or anything would quickly flee from the racket that this machine would make!

Quoting Daniel Calleri A great build! The spinning rockets are excellent.
The more bits that move or pop-out or unfold or spin, the more fun I reckon!

When I make things like this, I always try to think about what I would have found fun when I was 10 years old.

Quoting David Alexander Smith That plays to every spaceman's love of speed. I've got one of those baseplates, but only managed to deploy it once so far. The wake created with the strip plates adds to the illusion of water, I like that technique a lot.
I was inspired to use the base plate by seeing your MOC last year! I've a pair of the red ones too. I added the plates as a quick and easy way to give the impression of movement: a bit like the lines that cartoonists use. I couldn't think how to build 3-D wakes!
