Classic Space shooting gallery
About this creation
So you have a lot of Classic Space minifigures...What do you do with them? That was my problem (I admit, a good problem) this Christmas, when I came into possession of some 60+ classic spacemen. Immediately, my twisted mind went to work...

And came up with this! I may have just built it, but it's been percolating in my mind for months. It's a 4-player shooting gallery featuring our favorite featureless spacedudes.

Four players can race to knock down their men using the conveniently color-coded "arrow" launchers.

Something about the smug expressions these guys tote around made me want to see them in the crosshairs. I should probably see a shrink.

I missed! Clicking a camera and pulling a trigger don't go well together. Neither do typing and chewing gum. Or taunting a rhino and dousing yourself with gasoline. Multitasking can be very dangerous.

My eldest daughter offered to do some modeling for me. Here, she fires from long distance.

Bam! There's something sickly-satisfying with seeing a Classic Spaceman knocked off his block. By the way, have you figured out what piece I'm using as a weight under each figure?

One of my favorite play features is reseting the men - just turn the wheel, and they pop back up, ready for another round!

Thanks for viewing!

EDIT: I'm going field testing tomorrow! The CSSG will be my newest addition to my afterschool Lego program. I'm very interested to see how the students like it, and how my purposefully simple construction techniques hold up under their typically rough handling. We'll see who wins out!

Another success story. My family visited this weekend, and had fun playing with the shooting gallery. Everybody loved the concept. I'm still having issues with fragility, so I'm thinking a redesign using only Technic is in order, someday at least.

Field testing completed! A few notes to myself: Do not place targets in circular formations. Children have a tendency to "miss" and shoot each other. Linear formations, preferably with a wall behind for catching stray arrows, work best. I may also need to make the support columns more bulky. Otherwise, success! They were great!

Cool! I've done this with the catapult from 8038 The Battle of Endor. Since I have a bunch of minifigs scattered around my bookshelves full of Star Wars sets, I see how many I can knock down from the other side of the room. Of course, sometimes I end up hitting a ship's stand made of clear bricks and then I have a mess, but I'm going off topic. Maybe you can make a gun using more than on missle so you don't always have to keep going back and forth to retrieve the missle. Say 3 or so missles all lined adjacent and parallel to another. Rapid fire!

Quoting Brick Boy That's gonna big great for family game night !
Yeah, it's already been a big draw for my kids. All of them, from my oldest down to my 2-year-old daughter, have enjoyed blasting spacemen for a couple days now.

I'd consider this truly horrific if I didn't see those ubiquitous smiles starring at me, mocking me, begging me to pull the trigger, daring me to indulge in a little "ultra violence". MUST SHOOT. MUST SHOOT! Looks way too fun. I approve. =]
