BSG:The Next Chapter Season3 Episode17
About this creation
Galactica Medical Lab.

LT Kevin Moodster, call sign Strummer, escorted by Marine guards to see Dr. Korund as well as the ship's resident Cylon expert, CMDR Garry King. After being captured under false pretenses by the Poseidon Fleet, it was deemed necessary upon his return to determine whether Strummer was in fact himself, and not a synthetic clone.

The presence of unusual brain activity and/or various artificial means of mind control is to be eliminated before he is restored to full flight status. Although welcoming on the surface, Strummer feels the entire crew looks at him with an air of suspicion. Not only towards him, but towards the woman with whom he escaped...

Dr. Korund: "Strummer, good to see you, come in..."

King: "Put your helmet down, Lieutenant."

Strummer: "Yes, Sir."

Korund: "Okay, we'll be running some tests, make sure you're healthy, and not carrying any unusual pathogens..."
King: "So, what he means is we need to make sure you're not a frakin' toaster, or some sort of brainwashed sleeper agent whose going to start shooting people."

Med Tech: "The scanner is initialized, Sir."

Korund: "Thank you, Yeoman."

Korund: "Hop right in there, Lieutenant, make yourself comfortable. This shouldn't take too long."

Tech: "Scanning..."

Korund: "Nice and still..."

Tech: "Okay, Sir, scan complete. No anomalous readings. DNA shows no artificial polypeptides, and no sign of brainwave manipulation compared to the archived files before his capture. It's really him, Sirs."

Strummer: "Awesome!"

Strummer: "So I'm good to go, Sirs?"

Korund: "Looks like it, Kevin. Welcome home."
Strummer: "Thanks, Doc, Commander. I think I'll get some rack time."

Commander Nempec's Quarters

Nempec: "Gentlemen, thank you for coming."

Nempec: "I just received word from Korund that Strummer passed his tests."

Nempec: "He's not a clone, replica, or Cylon. And there's no sign of any hypnotic manipulation or computer chips. He wasn't even treated as a hostile. In fact, he's in perfect health."

Maverick: "Great news! Sounds like they were using more carrot than stick. And from the looks of his 'friend', I think I know what they were up to. Once he settles in, though, we'll need to get some details about his experience, what they might have been interested in."

Watchko: "And what's she REALLY here for? That's what I'd like to know. Is it all a ruse?"

Nempec: "All good questions. There's a lot more to this story, that's for certain."

Nempec: "But right now,"

Nempec: "I need a drink... Anyone else?"

Watchko: "No thanks, I'm on duty."

Mav: "I'm all set, Skipper, thanks."

Nempec: "All this has me puzzled... They get an opportunity to capture one of our pilots. We think he's dead, so we're not going to be looking for him. And they tell him Galactica was destroyed, so he has no reason to escape..."

Mav: "That means there's something he knows that interested them, and they didn't feel it necessary to get it out of him the hard way."

Watchko: "I'd say they used the oldest technique in the book. They must have figured, set him up with a pretty girl, and he'd spill his guts, tell her anything they wanted."

Nempec: "I think it's more than that. Assimilate him into their crew, make him one of them. Maybe offer him everlasting life?"

Mav: "Wouldn't they be afraid he'd freak out? After all we know about the Cylons?"
Watchko: "What frakin' choice would he have?"

Nempec: "True. We need to find out their goal, even if HE doesn't know it himself."

Nempec: "We don't want to push it. Let him get used to being back. See how he interacts with the girl."

Watchko: "The girl, if that's what we're going to call her, may be the key."

Watchko: "We'll find out what she's up to, you can bet on that!"

Now that he has been cleared of all suspicion of being a replica, Strummer makes his way back to his crew quarters.

It suddenly hits him how long it has been since he left Galactica, and all that he had been through on the Triton.

But the issue of his companion from the alien ship, now held prisoner, may create a problem for his reintegration as an officer.

What will be Hitomi's fate?

Will they come to understand that he would not have been able to escape without her help?

Or will his loyalty to the Galactica continue to be suspect?

Pilot: "They said he passed his test in the med lab."

Pilot: "Well, that's a relief."

Pilot: "Still doesn't explain why he's with that thing, that girlfriend of his."

Pilot: "You gotta wonder what they might have done to him while..." The sound of the hatch being opened stops her mid sentence.

Strummer enters his crew quarters, not knowing what to expect.

Silence. He senses he is interrupting a conversation. A conversation about him.

Strummer: "Hey guys."

Pilot: "S'up."

Pilot: "Hey Kevin. Welcome back..."

She scans him up and down, as if wondering whether or not it's really him.

Strummer: "It's good to be..."
Pilot: "Sorry, gotta go to the gym...See ya later."

After all that's happened since returning to Galactica, Strummer finally smiles, seeing his old bunk...

And his guitar, right where he left it.

Aidan Bryant, call sign Die Hard: "Dude! You're back from the lab! I guess that means you're YOU, and not a frakin' toaster!"

Topsy: "Of course he's not a toaster, you idiot."

Bryant: "Oh, I knew it was him. There's no way they could copy that goofy grin of his!"

Topsy: "How are you feelin'? It's good to see you back home, Kevin!"

Bryant: "Check it out, we got your stuff out of storage. Now, there ARE a few things of yours I have to track down, but..."

Topsy: "It's going to be fine, you know. Everything's going to work out..."

Bryant: "Yeah, Dude, once you get back into the rotation, it'll be like it never happened."

Strummer: "Thanks, guys, you know it's been a rough couple of days...I think I need some rack time."

Bryant: "Yeah, sure, Kevin..."
Topsy: "We understand. We'll see you later."

To be continued...

Quoting clayton Marchetti Awesome episode! I know they scanned him and all, but they have never scanned these types of clones before for a comparison. They may fool the scanner.
That was a common misconception by the crew during the show that someone could be replaced by a Cylon, like the Bodysnatchers. Turns out those people were Cylons all along. Once you see the series, it should all make sense.

Will Hitomi ever live up to her name? These are the questions I need the answers to... hee, hee! Another good one! :)
1)Yes, I just wanted to clarify in non BSG terminology. 2)You bet he can! 3)I think it's the other way around. 3)The decking can be slipper when wet, so towels are necessary. 4)That remains to be seen, but you may want to review some of the season two episodes to refresh your memory ;) Thanks, Topsy!
