Herus
A Toa of Time, trapped within time itself.
About this creation
*muffled voices*

*footsteps approaching*

*steps up to podium*

*ahem* Uhh.... So yeah. New MOC. Not what I had originally planned on uploading by now, but oh well. Need to get this one done. Sorry about the bad photos too, rainstorm. (though the rain felt lovely to walk through.)

This was made for Gringat's contest. Our challenge was our own takes on the Toa of Time, Life, and Creation. I went with Time, though I have lost serious creativity points since Chro posted his first. -_-

Link to the Contest.

Anyway, I suppose this is where I put the story. Sorry about it in advance, I had a good idea, but I couldn't find the right words, so this is what you get.

Herus sighed, as he often found himself doing these days.
He was tired. Tired of everything. Tired of being the only one with any form of a soul that walked the Gatelands. Tired of the beasts that did roam the Gatelands in search of a decent meal, those of which were few and far between int he world between worlds. Tired of being being able to see and know everything, and yet being able to touch none of it.
Herus was a Toa of time. In terms of the few Toa of time he had ever actually seen, he was rather average, having limited control over his element as well as not possessing a Vahi. The only real difference between him and other Toa was his level of knowledge. Possessing the great Kanohi Zukenas, the great mask of knowledge, he naturally had a greater knowledge than that of others. He was no great Toa, nor one well known for much of anything though. In fact, most creatures had never even heard his name, nor would they; for though Herus knew all creatures throughout time, he was doomed never to be able to touch them.
Herus was a strange Toa of time, in that he existed within time itself. He existed within the time between time. The time that passes between each ticking second, each millisecond that all other beings feel, is the space in which Herus existed. He could walk through the entirety of time, watch as worlds were formed and destroyed, travel through the different worlds and different times that consumed them, but he could never touch them, for he existed in a different space of time, a different part of time, one that other beings could never interact with.
The only world upon which Herus could exist and touch was a borderworld, one that was in the finite space between worlds that coexisted, called the Gatelands. It was a shadow of all other worlds, being in a way a gateway from one to the next, yet only one with the proper knowledge could pass through the Gatelands properly, and so far none had done so. The Gatelands were nothing special, being merely an endless expanse of green grassy fields, broken up by the occasional lake of clump of jungle. It went on forever. It was forever.
The only creatures besides Herus that roamed the Gatelands were monstrous beasts, those of which that had been banished from other worlds by peoples who wielded a power they did not understand. These peoples thought they had rid themselves of these monsters when they sent them there. Instead they only banished them to become shadows of their world and all others. Now existing on the fringe of realities, these beast became free.
They hunted throughout the Gatelands for anything. Their souls having long been destroyed they were but empty shells with the basic desire to hunt and kill for food. New ones arrived everyday, but few really last long. Whenever Herus came across any of them he would slay them with relative ease. Few ever gave much trouble for his skill with his blade.
There was nothing he could do though. He, like the beast of which he slayed, was forever banished to the shadowy world. So on he marched, looking for an end in an endless eternity.

Not like my others, but oh well. Ever onward.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how he came out. There are a few things I wish I could've fixed, but I ran out of ideas *muffled sobbing*

A look at the back.

Kneeling.

Come at me bro.

On his knees.

Close up on the legs.

Back of legs.

Close up on back.

Close up on front.

One final shot.

Creator's Comments: I don't really have much to say about this guy. I do not know for certain the piece count, but I feel very good that it is under the limit; the torso is actually hollow.
Overall, I am really happy with this guy, as I said. Love that sword for some reason, though I really done know why since it's so simple. I aslo like the torso except for one tiny thing.... THOSE ABS. *insert mad rage, sounds of pieces flying and all other assorted forms of chaos* I couldn't think of anything to cover up his abs DX I hate it, but I eventually had to just let it go.
I also greatly dislike the head, but it was rather last minute and all I could come up with DX (Twenty points though to whoever figures out why it only has one eye.)
At least I got 9 out of the possible 12 bonus points. I'll take that. I know that it won't win me the prize, (*Insert another long line of rage and whining*) but I tried.

Anyway, that's all. Carry on.

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) Okay, I had seen this guy before but did not comment as I did not have the 'time then to read the story. Then, I forgot to come back! Just found my way here again and this 'time' with the 'time' to read. Now this is how my mind 'sees' your Gatelands... a great name, by the way. I first envisioned a number line, like in math class. True there are the usual infinities... the going on forever in both the positive and negative directions. But I saw your Gatelands as the infinities between two numbers on that number line. This is an area of disturbing study in mathematics. Some of the greats like Cantor took this on. Okay, the build... very cool, he is bulky yet lithe... reminds me of a running back! :)
Yes Topsy, yes! Exactly! That is what I was thinking of when I wrote this. The infinite number of points between quantifiable points on a line. The seconds between seconds. The space between spaces. I've used my concept of the Gatelands in a few other things, mostly some other stories I've written, but I felt that this one would be a really good place to use it as well. Glad you liked it! Thanks Topsy :)

Quoting Aquarist Shaluub Well, this is amazing. Especially the torso. The only tiny little complaint is that that silver Nui-Jaga stinger on his back sticks out a little (that piece tends to do that), but seriously, that's so incredibly minor it's irrelevant.
Thank you :D

Quoting Chronos Omega They're not supposed to be black and orange, it's just that people tend to make them in that scheme. Excellent MOC, you have a chance here. :P

Quoting Des Demon Finally a toa of time that isn't black/orange! I really like his story, it's kinda depressing. The only thing I don't like are those two green pieces XD Epic moc anyway!
Lol, guess its a good thing I didn't know that they were supposed to be that color, aye? XD I find it funny that you like the story because its depressing, but to each their own I guess lol. In retrospect, those green pieces should've been blue, so I'll definitely agree to that XD thanks Des :)

Thanks David :) I wanted the spikes to be somewhat gear-esque since it is a being of time. Glad that it looked good :)

Quoting The Fezziman I really like how you went from the traditional color scheme for a Toa of Time ( Gold, red, brown etc.). The build is amazing too. In my opinion, this is perfect.....except for the head xP

Quoting Clever Crowe A silly aside, I was browsing along, and the thumbnail made me go "Oooo wait a minute now, what's this?" =) This is excellent, Gale. You've done a fine job of layering greeble without overbulking the limbs. Kept Herus' look athletic without being hulkish (also like the backstory, nice writing). Cheers!~
Hahaha, well, I'm glad it caught your attention. I was really trying to go with an athletic and strong look while still remaining thin and limber. Glad you noticed :D I'm a bit surprised you liked the backstory, as it is nowhere near my normal standards XD Thanks Crowe :)

Quoting L.A. Miranda Very interesting story, although a bit classic for a Time-related being. I specially like the 'beasts' idea, remind me to the 'bears and lions' hidden on the Plank space's dimension in the Hyperion Saga. About the MOC, it has a perfect chrono style... Refering to Chro-chan style, not the time. Because it doesn't remind me a Toa of Time, but Ice (not only for the shield). The design is absolutely marvelous, however. I love the knees and the skirt, they have great ideas on them! The rest of him it's perfect, unlike you, I don't find the abs bad, just regular (in the sense of normal). Maybe I could say something about the legs' movility at the waist, but I'm not sure. I really like that head too, I don't understand why you not. Because it doesn't look very Toa-like? Details. (BTW, the one eye... It's due the idea of 'the eye that observes time' or because he's somehow related to Malia?) The sword is just epic, that handle is beautiful! To sum up: although he looks like a warrior of Ice, he's greatly designed and an entry that should be feared! Good luck, my dear!! <3
Hmmm, I don't know what you are referring to, but yes the story was a bit... lacking for my tastes. And yeah, this was partially Chro inspired. I agree that it looks like a Toa of Ice, but I liked the look too much to really change it. I just don't like the head for some reason, it didn't come out like I'd have preferred. And nope! Those guesses are wrong! XD Good try though. Thanks L.A. :)
