finished in 1836, built for Napoleon Bonaparte I, Siting in the middle of Place de l'Étoile, the arc is the largest triumphal arch on the earth. 12 avenues run into the the Place de l'Étoile roundabout. the arch is one of many monuments on the Axe historique. The chains are meant to go around the outer rim of the arch.
Engraved in the wall of the arch is the names of French Generals. On the plaza beneath the arch is The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and eternal flame all in memory of WWI & WWII
