Volvo - concept articulated bus (RC)
I've been away for a long time and here I am with yet another one of my vehicles. It took a long time to do it because it's first version was 70% done and then I realized it wasn't working properly so I built a new one from scratch and this is how it turned out. Yes, I know I've built articulated bus before but I got an idea for the design of another and I just had to make it into reality. It turned out at least 95% of what I imagined at the start so I guess it's a success. I ordered some pretty expensive new parts and there it is. It doesn't have many functions to begin with. I an not Bricksonwheels, Ingmar Spijkhoven or Denis Bosman to be able to put maximum number of cool working functions in a small space but I believe I did alright. For starters it really drives, it steers, it opens doors via remote control and it's got lights so what do you need more?! :)) I also thought it would be a good idea to make the bus more alive with the passengers, unlike my last bus that had only a driver. This time I put several technic figs that act as adults and minifigs that act as children. So you have dads and kids. I am sorry that LEGO never came to an idea to produce female technic figs but one can only dream about it. Why Volvo? I learned how to make it's logo in LEGO?… and I guess it's because this bus was built as a public vehicle with a lot of glass surfaces for countries that don't have much light during the winter period. Yeah, like Scandinavian countries.
About this creation

Basic view with lights turned on and off

Many times I've been asked how long and wide my models are. I've never been much bothered by the exact size so you, people oftenly did it for me. This time I'll tell exactly. 87cm long and 18 studs wide (rear view mirrors not included)

The back with lights on and off

Here's how the doors/stairs work.

I figured the only logical place to put the fuel tank in this sort of bus is on the top of it. I wanted to put it inside but it just wouldn't look good. Anyways bottom right picture shows the lights switch.

The detailed view on the driver's place. The steering wheel actually steers with the front wheels. I am sorry I didn't show that in the film. I kind of forgot and later on I was too lazy to film it additionally. Trust me, it steers ;))

Passengers

front wipers and the engine. The engine place actually contains the real XL PF motor. It's just a bit too hard to see it through all of these details.

The actual chassis. 3 PF medium motors for doors, 1 PF medium motor for steering, 1 XL motor for driving, 2 sensors, light switch and 2 pairs of LED's. By the way those extra wheels you see at the front - they don't exist no more. I thought I'd need them. It turns out the chassis is very strong so it holds on. The last bus didn't drive that well because i put only B wheels into drive. This time B and C wheels drive it. So yes a 4 wheel drive it is with 3 differentials.

My feline is just about my only fan at home. Every time she sees me fiddling with the bus she jumps on the table and tries to enter the damn thing.

I have to say it eats batteries like a fat boy eats his cookies which is no surprise concerning how heavy it is.

Quoting Julien FLORENT Nice ! Great style, and a lot of functions. For the children you should also try the Creator figures (same body as the JackStone), they fit very well with the Technic figures :) Your Volvo bus is amazing. It reminds me a lot the electric trolley busses of my town, Lyon : the Renault/Irisbus Cristalis: http://p8.storage.canalblog.com/85/10/408366/22325642.jpg
Hey hey, thanx a bunch for the comment and thanx for reminding me of Jack Stone figures. I had forgotten all about them. The bus in your link really kind of resembles mine in some ways. I guess the wheel hubcaps or something but it doesn't give as much light as mine :))

This is one epic build. The design is so original and I love the way the doors open, I like that the front door is independant of the other 2. The video is great and it's so nice to see the bus alive. Your care and attention to detail really shows. Fantastic work!

A fun concept, relaised on an impressive scale. I like the way that the mini-figs are children to the Technic people.

Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Wow. Great job here! -Also very noce to finally see soemthing new from you again. Please feel free to build a vehicle big enough for your cat to fit in! -Would make a funny video...
Hey, yes I know.... I've been away for a long time now. I had to be in a hospital for almost a month and a half and had some business rush so I was pretty much a lot of time away from LEGO. Well, I'm back now. As for the vehicle big enugh for the cat, that's a good idea but it wouldn't be able to drive by remote control. The cat would be too heavy ;))

Quoting Marin Stipkovic Not really wheelchair-friendly but I like it more than your previous articulated bus. It looks great and I like the Volvo grille.
Yes, that's actually the first thing I thought of really. How to make it invalid friendly. I actually thought of making one side of the doors a big slope but it would be too heavy on one side for the motor to pull it. Even now when the batteries are half spent the motors can hardly pull the doors up. When they are charged fully you see what happens on the film. Thanx again all of you for wonderful comments :))

Quoting matt rowntree Very impressive! Your cat knows a great ride when he sees it. I'll have to agree.
Hahahaha, yes, I guess you are right. That is the only model so far she embraced totally! It's funny to me because females get turned on by cars, not busses :D Again, thanx everyone for the comments

Thanx, guys for the comments. As for the doors, I forgot to mention - the doors don't usually open this way but I thought it'd be cool to make the doors and stairs open at the same time like this. :))

Very handsome bus - and I'm glad you took the trouble to connect the steering wheel, something too few people do. I'd say the function count is pretty good; especially as there's plenty of room inside as well as the motors. Very nice work!
