Potu Apis
BLARGH!! MOCpages is killing me.
About this creation
.......... Wow I've been gone a long time. Dang my computer always been so darn slow on here. Sorry about the bad photos too, really bad day to shoot.

Anyhoot,

This is my entry to the Self-MOC off Tournament. The challenge was a deity type thing.... I'm SOO gonna get creamed. Still though, I'm at least mildly happy with how this came out. It has a bit of a story about how it actually came about this way, but I'll save that for the end which nobody reads anyway :D

Link to the Contest.
Link to my opponents, Galaxus, and Potu.
Link to the original Potu.

Now, story wise, there isn't much. I based this guy loosely off of Ancient Egyptian type stuff, hence the crook, flail, ceremonial knife, and curved writing stick. So any real details are that Potu here is a priest who was possessed by his patron god, transforming his body. He wields a crook and flail, as well as a curved "wand" through which he can channel his god's powers in prayer, and the ceremonial knifed used in funerals. He also has precious gems inlaid in his armored tunic reflecting his aura.

Yup. That's it. Pathetic really... Meh, oh well. On to the pics!! :)

Pretty good pose that you can see him.

Torso close up. Surprisingly happy with how that came out. You can also see his gold earrings and ceremonial knife.

Back.

Close up on back.

Getting ready to channel his patron god's powers.

Feel the powah. (NOT XD)

Sending up a prayer for power.

Now to the crook.

Wielding that flail.

He's got a big stick.

Lookin' boss.

Better look at the head and earrings. The eye design belongs to Banjax as I'm sure most everyone is aware by now.

Close up on legs that I forgot earlier.

One last shot with a size comparison between Potu, Vakama and Mags.

Creator's Comments: Whew.... Glad that MOCpages finally got it's act together enough to let me post this. Now, coming up with this guy was interesting to say the least XD When I first saw the category, (Like five days after it had already been posted....) I got a few ideas. Now, my best friend being Hindu and another of my friends being Buddhist, it isn't surprising that those were my first thoughts. I started with a vague Hindu inspiration, but as I built it became more Asian and then finally settled on Egyptian. With my experience, (Not nearly enough, just saying) in Ancient Egypt, I can't believe that that didn't occur to me before. But, I settled on an ox like thing, (Hence the name Apis, the ox god of fertility in Ancient Egypt) and set forth. I gave him a crook and flail, despite the priest not actually being the one to use such items in traditional Ancient Egypt, because they were fairly recognizable to anyone with any experience in Egyptian lore. The curved writing stick.... I know that the Egyptians had curved sticks for something, though I forget exactly what purpose they served. Still, for Potu here, it serves as a method to pray and channel the patron god's power. but writing out prayers in the air as he says them. The ceremonial knife was also used in Ancient Egyptian ceremonies, I was thinking of the one used for the opening of the mouth part in a funeral ritual, the name of which escapes me at the moment. If we were going for a more warrior type look for this, I'd have given him a khopesh too, but since this is supposed to be a deity/priest thing, no swords... Now, some things I'd have liked to do are give him a more robe-like tunic and certainly a crapton more jewelry, but my red pieces that would allow the robe look are, shall we say, lacking, and I have a mysterious lack of pearl gold pieces, so this is the best you get. Oh, and just as a side note, those black parts on his arms are supposed to be like leather straps on his wrists.
I know I can't even come close to winning with this entry, but I personally don't feel like I got the short straw in our three way match off. Personally I think Potu is the one who got the worst challenge, having to turn Galaxus into a deity. Unless he makes it the god of the internets I doubt that it will be easy.
I wish both of my opponents the best of luck. :)

And yes, I've a lot to catch up on. Give me time.

G'day all :)

Quoting Chopperskull (Jon) Just the earnings alone should make you win this ! :P Really great moc, I'm kinda speechless. Strange proportions but this moc looks really great and still resembles Potu :D
Lol, glad you think so, but Galaxus beat me. Appreciate it though :)

Quoting Johann Dakitsch Great! Very cool looking with a nice color scheme and shape. I really like the eyes technique, didn't know it. Perhaps lower arms could be worked on a bit? Maybe some more bulk, or at least covering the gappy underside of them.
Thanks Johann! I wanted the lower arms to be thinner for a couple of reasons, first of which being that a bull's lower legs are all pretty thin. The second being that I have quite literally NO brown armor and I could think of nothing else that would work very well for it. I do wish I could've done something a bit better, but oh well.

Quoting L.A. Miranda Gale is back! Like Easter but better (?) Well, I really like the overall look of this version of Potu, but I don't find it very Egyptian-like... In fact, I thought it was an oni xDD But the designs used here are pretty beautiful, I love those legs... How they're getting smaller from the waist to the toes! <3 And the torso, based on those Mata feet, has been greatly developed! Like the head! The only part that really looks Egyptian for me, sorry. =P The earings are a great idea! I specially love how you cover so well every part of your MOCs recently, like on Creamslope or Everox. A sign of perfect evolution! Maybe the new Gale print? Good luck, my dear! <3
LOL! Nah, not better, but at least I've come bearing Legos :D and yeah, that's why I did the crook and flail, the actually Egyptian look was rather lacking. The head though I thought added something to it, and I'm glad you agree. Thanks L.A. :)

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) Yes, he definitely has the 'apis' look from head to those cloven toes! Pretty cool! Also, seems like you did a fair amount of research on ancient Eqyptian customs... bravo! :)
Lol, the research has been slowly accumulated over several years. I've always loved Egyptian lore, so it's been a side hobby of mine. Thanks Topsy :)

Quoting Coconut Fanatic How about a Vahi? Use that and you could get through everything in what seems an instant to us. :P Yeah, not gonna happen. Once again, I am impressed with your building prowess. The torso does use some nice techniques, and all the little details are excellent. The little knife and earrings are my favorite jewelry, those shuriken pieces serve their purposes. The feet seem little in comparison to the body, but that may just be the pics. Magnificent job, and good luck in the contest.
Lol, true, but even the Vahi could not get me time back :P Yes! Finally found a piece for those shurikens! 'Bout freakin' time XD And yeah, the feet are small. They are supposed to be hooves :P Thanks Terilis :)
