About this creation
Not built for the 2013 MocAthalon

Team: Nonexistent

While I'm not playing in the MocAthalon, the "Bookends" category really stood out to me. This build was one of the first ideas that popped into my head. One stick figure humorously squashing another by kicking a row of books down on top of him. The trickiest part was creating a hinge that wasn't noticeable (connecting the black/dark green book to the shelf), yet strong enough to support the weight of all the tilted books. The answer was black plate hinges. When stacked, the hinges make an incredibly stiff...hinge (you guessed it)!

I'd also like to say a huge word of thanks to my good friend Max Pointner for lending me some crucial pieces. Max also owns a bookend from which I gathered much inspiration.

Brick built books for bookends! I used white grille bricks for the "pages".

Stick figures! Or should I say brick figures? It kinda' rhymes...

Thanks for stopping by and Soli Deo Gloria!

I really like how the figures hve been posed and I had to look twice to realise that the book at either end was part of build. It's great that you got the whole thing to be at an angle but strong enough to support the weight of the books.

Thank you, one and all, for the comments. I'm most grateful! :)
Quoting Tim C Your imagination astounds me, Ian. When I first saw this MOC, my first thought was, "Not bad, but he should have made them more sturdy. I mean look, the books are falling." Of course, taking a closer look made me rethink that position. Like many of your works, I got a good chuckle out of this one. The poses that you put the figures in are very humorous. Well done. P.S. Nice copies of the Chronicles you have there. Some of my all-time favorite books.
Many thanks for the kind words Tim, I really appreciate them. As for Narnia, amen! When it comes to reading, I'm an Inklings geek. The books might just be foreshadowing something Lego related in the not so distant future...but I dare not say more. Thanks again for stopping by!

Quoting A Sargent The MOC-off will be 1 round, so you can judge, right?

I'm back, Ian! Hopefully, this'll be the last time I have to bother you, if it is a bother, which hopefully, it isn't. Just bringing you the latest news! The MOC-off will be 1 round, so you can judge, right? Thanks for your time! Hope to see you for it! Thanks again! ~Sarge

Quoting A Sargent Hey again, Mr. Spacek, Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you'd be interested in judging for a MOC-off I'm having with Ranger Brady.
No bother at all, and you can just call me Ian if you so desire. :) Would it be a simple one round MOC-off? If so I'd be willing, but if there are multiple rounds, etc., etc., I don't think I'd be up for it (I need a break from judging things). I recently turned down another person's request for that very reason.

Hey again, Mr. Spacek, Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you'd be interested in judging for a MOC-off I'm having with Ranger Brady. The MOC-off will be after the MA, but I thought if we got a judge now, we could get started right away after. If you don't want to or don't have time, no worries, I'll find someone else. Just repeating, it'll be after the MA, so I think the MELO will be finished too, so if you're not to busy, we're gonna need a judge. Thanks, and have a good night! ~Sarge

I could say something deep and existential about the blank faces of the figures and the conflict represented by their dark coloring and the tipping of the books onto the victim... but really, it isn't needed. You made this because you felt like it, and I think that it's quite an ingenious and inspired MOC. Excellent work!
