The Many Deaths of Toa Likus
Self-MOCoff Tournament 2013, round three: Chronos Omega vs. CallanLOF vs. Toa Likus. In space, no one can hear you scream.
About this creation
In order to save yourself, how far will you go?

Contest: SMOT2013
Opponents: CallanLOF, Toa Likus
Original: Toa Likus

Within each parallel universe,
from the Prime to the Kingdom,
the fate of a being remains the same.
This is Likus.

Through use of the Eternity Scope,
which allows the user to view their own destiny in parallel dimensions,
it became known that Likus would be eventually fated
to demonic possession or infection.

Throughout each universe, the method would vary,
as would the time in his history,
and the form the demon would take within him.

In the Prime Universe,
Likus decided to make use of Olmak energy residue,
combined with the power of the Eternity Scope,
to pull together his parallel selves,
then contain and destroy them all.

His hope was that by isolating and eradicating
any and all of the demonic threats to himself,
he would thwart destiny.

But nobody thwarts destiny.

This is the first form of Likus, drawn from the Toa Empire dimension.
He became loyal to Tuyet's rule, though he believed he was fighting for a good cause.
In order to better serve the empire, Likus volunteered for an... interesting experiment.
It involved direct fusion to an entity affectionately referred to as "Jaws of Infinity", for its ability to eat damn near anything it wanted.

The experiment did not go as planned.
Where once there was one being, now there were two, sharing one body.

The transformation was grotesque, to say the least.

This would be Likus from several different universes.
In these realities, his life was almost exactly the same, up until the point of his possessions.

He was a brave hero by all accounts, though not valiant enough, as it seems.

Nobody actually knows what this demon was. Likus' right half became shrouded in twisting, curling shadow.
Some say he was possessed by one from the Noble Circle of Horrorterrors that dwell in the Furthest Ring.
The infection messed with his head as well. Likus never once realized that he had at all changed.

In two universes Likus became infected with the Fenghga, as it was named by those of its home planet.
The Fenghga often appears as a series of claws, or perhaps even spidery protrusions.
It is a dark thing, indeed, though not all detrimental.
The Fenghga weakens the infected being gradually as it remains on them. Eventually this will cause their death.
But in times of stress, such as battle, the Fenghga can boost awareness and strength, at the expense of self-control.
The infected being, as a result, goes completely berserk, tearing apart all around them.

In the Prime Universe, Likus waited.
Across the facility, floating amongst the stars,
the scientists he had hired were studying the effects of the demonic entities. The results hadn't come in yet.
He was growing restless. It had been him alone who had pulled in the alternate forms of himself, then put them down, forcing the copies into stasis. That had certainly been hard to do. Emotionally, not physically, he thought.
The weary Toa of Gravity stood from his seat on the bridge of the station. He decided he'd stop by the laboratories and stasis chambers before turning in, though he knew that he wouldn't be able to sleep at all anyway.

The corridors were silent as he walked.

There was no sign of anything, be it person or beast.

At long last Likus reached the laboratory deck.

He strode past the tubes.
In the darkness they were illuminated by pale green backlighting.
It sickened Likus to look at them- the copies, himself, or himselves. He told himself it was necessary. And it was.

Likus passed the short one with the white eyes.
He'd come from the Empire, subject to a brutal experiment at Tuyet's behest.
As strange as it was to say, Likus pitied himself.

He passed the tall ones. There were three.

One was half shadow, creeping dark tendrils and claws, bulbous glowing red spots.

One with blackness twisting up from his back into spiderlike growths.

The next with the same spiderlike formations along his arm and ankle.

Likus reached the final stasis tube and stopped.
This was where the final one was.
The other one that they had yet to analyze.

The tube was empty.

And then in the grip of terror, Likus knew:

Nobody thwarts destiny.

And so fell Likus to his fate, by trying to rid himself of it.

> whooooooo

Honestly I loved this round. I built an entry on the first day, but I was told it didn't fit the category, so I built another, and another... then I decided to turn it into a theme, I guess. Variations. And it worked out, right?
I really liked making these variants and such, so at some point I'll make a page containing a bunch of variants off of these and other MOCs. Agnavar, Osmur, et cetera. And Blindvolt's going to get his own page, probably. (I suggest checking my flickr account if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

I'll add more here later, probably, but going to get burgers now, so tata. Alright, back.

Yes, I did have to take these apart to build the next one. Notice how the second through fourth versions use the same main body frame. I really like the transforming gimmick of the first form- if you notice, the legs flip around, toes flip out, arms turn back, and the shoulders and back turn into the giant mouth.

Also, the final form. The category description was updated on the first day to include the word parasitic. Through all the forms I had an idea in mind, which I couldn't quite make for a while. It was a vague idea really, not too solid, you know? So eventually I came up with the last one- "grip of terror"- which was definitely parasitic, haha. I like all the forms, though I wasn't as satisfied with the second through fourth in terms of complexity and such of the demonness. (Not demoness, which is female demon, but demonness, which is an adjective I just created on the spot.)

This was definitely inspired by the Dead Space series. Some of the forms are Necromorph-inspired, obviously, especially the final one (which also has a touch af Halo Flood in there). Also, the story, especially the ending, is inspired by a specific mission from Dead Space 3. To summarize it, Tucker Edwards, a pilot of a ship which was investigating Necromorphs, killed his crew members so he could survive longer, but eventually died anyway. Happy thoughts, eh?

The title (and a little bit of the concept) were obviously inspired by the (official) Bionicle story The Many Deaths of Toa Tuyet.

Anyway! The contest. Best of luck to Caleb and Logan- we're all going to need it, these 3-way matches are difficult.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on which forms are the most and least awesome!

This. Is. AWESOME!!!! Personally, I like the first "jaw-y" one best, but all of them are magnificent. One question though: on the last one, there is a piece that sticks out infront of his head so that it looks like it comes out of his neck- is that a head, or something else?

Quoting James Monson Very weird, but cool. I really like the last one, how it experiments with the idea of... Attaching such a thing to a humanoid figure in Bionicle MOCing; reminds me of the Flood from the Halo games, actually.
The final form was indeed inspired by the Flood.

Quoting legendary green fya You seemed to have the most trouble with the more "organic" parts of each. The fenghger versions are the worst but are still really cool. My favorite would have to be the half-shadow version, its just so epic. :)
I don't know if I'd call it trouble... just that I was focusing more on the other part. Thanks Taylor!

Quoting Toa Likus Dude, I didn't even know this contest was still active! But then out of the blue this insane MOC just shows up and totally melts my face off (not literally lol :p). But yeah really, really great work! Some amazing transformations that blow the category away, especially the chestburster one. Not only that, but giving it a good backstory based on official BIONICLE canon is just icing on the cake. Kudos on this insane MOC and good luck in the contest!

Quoting L.A. Miranda You get the like already for the first one <3 Love the grotesque transformation! If I were Likus, I wouldn't mind if I didn't pass the round: getting six versions of his self-MOC would be enough reward, but THESE six ones...!! So epic, so beautiful. Maybe similar internal and external structures, yes, but the ideas of the 'deaths' are wonderful and great. Good luck, Chronos, if you don't pass... Judges will know all those deaths... e__e xD
You always leave excellent comments. :P Thank you LA. If I were Likus I'd want to win, even if my opponent put in five or so entries, haha... though it'd be an added bonus. ;)

Yeah, I know. But at one point I jokingly insulted Monty and everybody jumped on me about it, so I've been wary. :P Yeah, I think you can come close to this, but you'd need something (coughmultiplemocscough) really cool to beat it- which you are, of course, perfectly capable of. XD

Quoting Callan Lord of Fire Two words: I'm screwed.
This is one of those posts I can't accurately respond to. I want to say something funny and confident but then I'd feel like I was being rude, and I want to say something like "you'll probably beat me" because I don't want to be all defeatist and self-doubting. I guess I can just say: thanks, and good luck. :P

Quoting Clever Crowe This got Epic-Foldered, Chronos. Not to detract from the other versions, but my fave was the 'clean' Likus, between the Infinity Jaw ver. and the Shadow Possession ver. (Just great figure-sculpting all 'round). If I haven't before, (can't recall) my compliments on your Photography. That gray posterboard background is a fine palette for your recent MOCs to pose in front of, and your multi-focal lenswork isn't seen much on MOCpages. Again, compliments.
Thanks for the feedback, Crowe. I liked the "clean" ones too, and if it hadn't been for the category of the contest, I would've left them like that. Not sure if you've mentioned the photography, but thank you, I take pride in my good photos. XD

Yeah, you're right... I realized that after scrapping him, so I tried to do something like that for the second Fenghga version (left arm and ankle). I wouldn't call that poetry, it's just writing; the linebreaks just illustrate the flow of the text, sort of.
