About this creation
Team STUDly Crew in Category 19. An Elegant MOC For a More Civilized Age
2013 MOCAthalon
Team Studly Crew
For this category, I decided to build one of the most iconic video game weapons ever created: Samus Aran's Arm Cannon.
Reference article: Samus Aran

The Arm Cannon is Samus Aran's primary weapon in her fight against the evil Space Pirates.

The base for the gun sports a position-able Chozo hand and details from the game like Chozo-styled architecture.

The last thing many Space Pirates ever see...

Remove the top panel to check out the microprocessors and gizmos! I always like to incorporate playable features, corny as they may seem.

The amount of SNOT-work in this creation was enough to make me expand my entire German vocabulary of not-nice words :P

The pulsing charging lines of the Arm Cannon change color depending on what Beam weapon Samus has enabled at the time. Known Beam weapons include Plasma, Ice, toxic Phazon, Shock coil, and many other beams.

Reference pic.

Since the interior of the gun is a little too cramped for me, I decided to build the Cannon to fit my little sister's hand instead. Don't let the lovely name or her cute looks fool you, folks: deep down, Mercy's the meanest bounty hunter in the galaxy!
Background info:
The Metroid series is my favorite Nintendo video game franchise, so when I saw this category I just knew I had to build something from it. This was an incredibly challenging build: the organic, flowing shapes of the cannon were a nightmare to translate into LEGO-form. There's also much less information available on it then say, Star Wars or HALO weaponry. Still, I know I did my best with the pieces I had. Best of luck to my competitors and as always:
GO STUDLEY CREW!

Very well done Paul! I'm sorry it's taken this long to find my way here. I think your sister is ensured for life! That's one spectacularly designed, wicked looking arm cannon! :) |

"Chozo-like architecture" may be a bit of a stretch for the base, but I don't mind at all! The cannon really is awesome, and the pic of your sister wearing it is priceless! 5 points fo' shizzle! |

That's very cool. I'm not familiar with the game but I like the details on the gun and the stand. The fact that her arm fits inside is a nice touch. I wanna build something similar just in the form of a big red chainsaw. |
