Veritas Deep Sea Research Vessel
So this is my largest LEGO undertaking yet. It measures about two and a half feet in length. There's a photo of it next two the Police Boat and Fishing Boat kits from 2011 for comparison. It was quite a challenge, but I really enjoyed it. I've been working on it for quite some time, as I needed to acquire parts to make it happen, plus I kept changing my mind about how I wanted to approach the bridge. In the end, I went with something a little more traditional, but I kept my crane control bubble. Each floor is built in a modular fashion, and the rear deck drops down to allow for the launch and retrieval of the "Scuttlebutt" submarine. The first floor cabin is the crane/deck control area and sub monitoring station, and the second floor is the bridge and observation deck. Above that is the equipment tower. Currently there is a documentary crew aboard to capture the moment of discovery as the crew plumbs the depths of the ocean.

Excellent design and attention to detail and superb play value. Your familiarity with oceanographic vessels shows. Especially like the gantry and ROV (minisub?) on the fantail. Would have loved to build that level of detail into my own motorized marine geology research vessel (with ROV, AUV, knuckle-boom crane and fantail A-frame), but making it water-safe meant basing it on 51x12x6 unitary hull (the largest I could get at the time) with deck room for little more than the basics.

A brilliant boat. I especially like the shaping of the bows and the stern, plus all of the playable features. The mini-sub is a great bonus and nicely styled.

I dig the design and colors. The original theme is a welcome divergence.

Awesome! And huge! I want to see this as a set. The minisub is awesome too, it could stand as a moc on its own :-)

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 a brick ship, how refreshing! and very detailed and stylish, you actually inspire me to do one, the comparative pics is testament to your achevement, it s scaled right, and massive, exactly my fav, bravo!
Thank you! I hope you decide to build one of your own! The scale gave me trouble, as at first with the way I wanted to build things, the bridge ended up looking like a large model of a smaller ship, as opposed to a small model of a massive ship, if that makes sense. Once I put the old airplane windows in place, it all came together.

Quoting Shayden (O_O) Wow! What an awesome job! How long did it take you to build this?
Thanks! I built this over the course of about two years. Obviously work was sporadic, but I had to get the money together to acquire the parts necessary, and figure out how to integrate all of the things I wanted in it. The hull went pretty quick, but it took me a long time to decide on a design for the bridge.
