Here is Scolopendra gigantea, a giant centipede.
About this creation
A centipede MOC proudly built in the name of Team Zodiacs for the MOCAthalon category "It Creepses and Crawlses"; not very original, as it literally mentions centipedes in the category description, but I really wanted to do this and I think it turned out great!
Click on the pictures for better views.

The head has sensitive antennae and jagged mandibles, but its eyes are weak.

The tail has a pair of modified legs called forcipules that are used to inject venom into the centipede's enemies or prey.

Despite these dangerous characteristics, centipedes are quite docile among humans, so much so that many ancient civilizations had sacred leg-counting ceremonies to honor these massive arthropods.

And Roman centurions would ride them into battle!

Today, however, they have a much more common use. Here, for example, is a man trying to buy ice cream on a hot day.

"Hello sir, what can I get for you today?"
"I'd like a trans-light green popsicle, please."
"That will be fifty cents."
"Nooo! All I have is this dumb old one hundred-dollar bill!"

"Good thing I brought my centipede. I just put the money in..."

"...And out comes one hundred dollars in spare change! I love my centipede!"

And thus, everyone is happy.
This has been a fun build for me, and I hope you all enjoy it. Please tell me what you think!

Love the mouth, awesome.
Glad you like it, there's more scorpion uses on my photostream. Type "Alien Committee" in the search box. :) |

Not that's my kinda pet... NOT! But still an awesome build! :)
Thanks! Not my type either, but then, I don't like trans-light green popsicles either. ;D

Very creepy crawly! I like your use of the scorpion piece for a mouth, and the tires surprisingly work well here. 4 points
Thank you very much! Does every judge give a score? I thought you all decided on one and one of you posted it. Had me quite terrified for a while there. :)

Well, first, thank you all!
This wasn't very difficult to build, (probably why I got a 2 D:)but it was super realistic; I had it on my floor overnight because it was really fiddly, and when I woke up and turned on the lights, it was just THERE, made me jump and all that. I'm sorry for all the silly puns involved, but I haven't made a centipede joke in years. :D
Again, thanks for dropping by!

I HATE THOSE THINGS!!! This one, however, is quite aproachable AND it exchanges money! I will now have to look at them in a new light. Maybe not. ;) Great critter, looks tough, like the real thing. |
