About this creation

"A cool Fall breeze from the ocean sweeps through our wheat fields, tossing and blowing the heads of grain around like flotsam on water. The breeze carries with it memories of former harvests. I heard my father say that this year is supposed to be a huge harvest, and I believe it. The crops are flourishing under the heavy rains and intermittent sunshine. All is well here in the Great City. Our fleets are in port, people are prospering, and peace surrounds us. Never before have I been so content to sit beside a tree and watch the waves. Life is good."

"As I sat blissfully watching the Entourage putting out to sea, I began to notice a ripple in the ocean that flowed against the waves. This was a curious phenomenon! A split second later, and to my horror, a monolithic black head reared itself from the sea. In one hideously graceful movement, it coiled its long body up and over the side of the ship and into the water on the other side. Sailors were running on the deck in a minor panic. Again and again, the sea serpent wrapped its body around the ship. All at once, a deafening crack rent the air as the spine of the ship snapped, and the mast began to splinter. It was over before I had a chance to think. I was dumbfounded. As I struggled to collect my thoughts, I realized that all was not well with the world."

"The sight of the great sea serpent put the Great City into a minor panic. It had been ages since sightings of such monstrous creatures as that had occurred close to our dear city, nonetheless attacking a ship! The city guard turned out in force, and already, people are beginning to arrive into into the Great City by the dozens, fugitives of other evils. Even as I write this, word comes saying that our brothers in Surna are facing a great evil. I do believe there is a stirring of evil in the great bowels of the earth. Terrible earsplitting shudders and groans sound out beneath our feet. I fear that they are beneath us."

"I felt an earthquake this morning, as though the earth itself was tearing coming apart. The entire city shuddered with a loud groan. There is definitely something beneath us. We are constantly wary of imaginary evils springing up from the ground in front of us. This is living hell. Another sighting of the serpent. My world is crashing."

"The rumblings under the earth grow louder every day. Our Great City is packed from immigrants from across the globe, seeking shelter from the subterranean creatures that have been showing themselves. I fear that the serpent is only the beginning. But what is this new sound! I hear fanfare coming from the royal palace! Even as I write this, there is a large procession making its way toward the village square. It seems the King has arrived to speak to us. I will try my best to hear what he says. "People of the Great City! I [his voice grows dim for a couple minutes]... but I pray that God shall keep us firm. Here we stay! Let those who are evil oppose us in this Great City!"

Hey all,
Here with the 4th (my second) installment of WarScape! Those of you on Flickr have been following along, but here it is in all its glory for you fellas on MOCpages. Thanks for all of your support and encouragement.
WarScape Saga:
Volume 1 by Sean and Steph Mayo
Volume 2 by Blake Baer
Volume 3 by LukeClarenceVan
For those of you who are not familiar with the WarScape series, you should definitely go check out the above links. Essentially, these are small micro builds that are designed to be a modular story. Each build has a small little section of the story that add up into one big creation (and overarching story). Sean and Steph are the real creative geniuses behind this method, so go check out their volume (you will be seeing some more of them in this story down the line).
Microscale is incredibly difficult. For those of you who have not tried it, I suggest you do so. It will give you a real appreciation for the minute ratios and precise details that are required in something of this nature. I could talk all about how difficult this one was, but a better way would just be for you to enjoy the work.
Hope you all like the creation! Have a great day and SOLI DEO GLORIA!
-Blake

Wow. These warscapes are my favorite microscales. I just noticed the seahorse, well done there. And, of course, all of the other brilliant techniques. |

Amazing. Im guessing the people are cut flex-tube and antenna/lever. The use of hair for trees is very nice. |

Amazing way of combinating bricks! The details, and in the same time the scene,,, everything is just in great harmony. The trees, lots of excellent trees. I like the carrot tree:) I love the people. But I just can't figure out how that is done. Is it,modulex? The underwater is my favorite part. Amazing amazing details. The whole scene is lifelike. Great job on this! |

I really hope You and the other contributors continue expanding this. Absolutely stunning for a microscale and some of the best PU I have seen in a long time. Yours builds are always a blessing mate! My only issue with this would be the semi messy backside of the build. I'm almost certain that can be covered by a few more modules though :) Great style as always! ~Thoy |

As usual, you never cease to amaze. I love all the details and PU you always manage to pack in (like the green hair for trees and the spiral staircase centerpiece as a giant pillar) but the architecture and landscaping at such a small scale is what's really inspiring. When everything's so tiny, every piece counts, and you really made each one come through here. Your rockwork, especially, is stellar--I know from experience that it's even harder to succeed in than full-scale rocks. All in all, a job well-done! And by the way, congrats on your victory in the TLG LOTR contest! |

I love it Blake! I remember seeing this on Flickr! Your mini castle creations always impress me! I love that miniature castle, and how you put those small builds together is just GENIUS! Your micro ship is well done, and I love how you have the animals on the ocean floor! But I must say, if this is an ENTIRELY miniature build, THAT IS ONE BIG OCTOPUS! :D That cave is superb, although I can't quite figure out what is in it. :/ I have one question, where did you get all your trans dark blue tiles and bricks?!?!? You have so many! |
