I have always liked the idea of the continuation/evolution and extension of the LL918,LL924,LL928 series. I have made a few attempts at an LL918 continuation and an LL928 extension (larger LL938). After going through my collection I realised that the most natural evolution of the LL928 in an original Lego Space series was the 6985 Cosmic Fleet Voyager. This got me thinking about what sort of model could fit in between the 7 years of LL928 and 6985.
Below are some photos of my first attempt to fill this gap. I have tried to provide a lineage between the two by using parts that are available in both white and grey and substituted the white pieces for grey ones to give the Blue/Grey look a bit more of a modern feel. The tail thrusters and front of the side engines are an example of this. I have also tried to use lot of the original LL928 such as the nose and the rear hinged doors. I did not want to use any parts that were newer than the Cosmic Fleet Voyager itself. I had to make some compromises in some parts of the design, especially to fit the hybrid cockpit as the heights of both are very different.
I hope you enjoy it. Any comments, good or bad are welcome.
This is great! I love your thinking. It has always puzzled me the jump in design that the ships made. Perhaps Lego was leaving room for wonderful creations like this! Nice evolution. BTW you might be interested in my own interpretation of the Galaxy Explorer (The Ecosse).
