From the vintage 2013 Collection...
About this creation
I recreated the iconic image taken of Astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. In Aldrin's visor, you can see the reflection of the LEM and the photographer, Astronaut Neil Armstrong.
The mosaic is 30" x 40" and is made with over one million LEGO bricks ...just kidding, I don't count them so I have no idea how many bricks I used.
Aldrin just celebrated his 83rd birthday on January 20th. I missed my deadline by a few days, but I don't think he'll mind!
"Reflection" will be on display at Seven - A Modern Art Lounge in Scottsdale, AZ.

A close up of the visor reflection. Armstrong is on the right.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dave, if you ever chose to take your game to the "SNOT" arena, you would no doubt "dim the lights". Great one nonetheless. |

Though I am one of the few people that does NOT use a baseplate when I make a mosaic, and I generally use 1x1 LEGO bricks for the actual image and lots of 2x4 bricks and big base bricks to support the vessel, I find this build to be an awesome one and it was so well designed that I thought that someone like Eric Harshbarger, Sean Kenney, or Nathan Sawaya had built this MOC but no, it was you and it is as awesome as anything that they have built, and that is saying a lot to put your work into their league. |

although I feel mosaics are out of my league, I m inspired for a nagel, I lately saw one for real, the guy showed me 9 large light grey baseplates for his piece....my jaw kind of dropped, so was my project, I tought 1 grey baseplate would suffice, it s impressive! yours is really cool, for the historic moment, but, I find a lot of layers, great piece! |

I was completely speechless when I saw this. From the home page it looked like the actual picture but once it went to the mocpage thats when my jaw dropped! What an achievement this mosaic is...I dont think I've seen a much better mosaic than this- especially with such an iconic photo. Much respect to you and all the others who can do mosaics to this high caliber. The use of lego at its finest right here. Good job man. 5/5 - J. |

My goodness, Dave. This is spectacular. Art at its finest, good man. The detail that you achieved here is just spell binding. As redundant as it is to say this, my favorite part is the reflection. Just perfect. |

*jaw drop* From the thumbnail, I thought this was just an normal photograph (though I suspect it might be an intricate mosaic, as this is MOCpages). :) Job well done! |

“Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.” Dave, Nick here. The Mosaic has more then landed! I do not think he's mind as the say: "Better late then NEVER!"
Another quote for you: “There's a need for accepting responsibility - for a person's life and making choices that are not just ones for immediate short-term comfort. You need to make an investment, and the investment is in health and education.”
