Introducing the muscle of the Brain Attack wave one villains; Bruizer! He is set #44005 and has 62 pieces.
About this creation
Let's see what comes with this set:

This set includes a narrow torso piece,
two gunmetal grey feet,
two longest lower limb pieces,
three regular upper limb pieces in grey,
one ball and socket/pinhole connecter piece.
two second shortest lower limb pieces,
one silver hand
and a new skull mold in trans medium green.

Armour includes two regular chest armour piece in gunmetal grey,
two wide gunmetal grey armour pieces,
one grey "Savage Planet" paw piece,
one silver sise 5 armour piece, with a rocky print,
Bruizer's mask,
one silver "Savage Planet" weapon holder pieces,
three sise 3 armour pieces in trans orange
and three new rocky armour pieces.

Other parts include one extra long, extra wide technic liftarm,
some little technic parts,
and an orange Brain Parasite

This Brain Parasite is an interesting piece. It is 12.2cm long, and 4cm wide, which makes it pretty big in proportion to the other pieces. One thing that is nice is that there is a 'brainy' texture to it that you don't really see on the packaging. The actual thing is rubbery and quite flexable, however, the mold on the inside is ridgid. This is everything that you see in red; the horns, the eyes and the axle. Overall, I quite like this piece.
Now lets take a look at Bruizer himself!

There we go; Interesting. Some things are already begining to stand out.

There are two options for how you want the Brain Parasite to sit. You can either plug the tail in or let it hang free. If you plug it in, then it does a good job to cover up the back, and just to make it look more like it's a part of him. However, this will limit poseability of the head, making you unable to move it up or down. the tail is really stiff, and will pop out of the little connector piece quite easily. If the tail hangs free, then poseability is much easier. It does look a little scrappy, though.

If you haven't noticed by now, then there is a mechanism on this guy, and the leaver sits on his back. The Mechanism is smooth and easy to handle, but my gripe is... it looks so ugly! The designers should make these mechanisms with pieces that are all the same colour, because to me, this ruins the set as much as putting a lime green armour piece in a completely random place.

And if you haven't already figured it out, the mechanism triggers the arm to flip up and down. It's a nice reminicant of Bionicle, and the action is nice and smooth. Kiddies will definately enjoy this exiting new (in truth it's old) feature. (Also, if you pose the armour on his shoulder in the right place, the arm will actually hold in mid air)

In order for that to work, the arm has to be one ridgid position. (ha ha just like Bionicle) This means you cannot bend or pose it like in most Hero Factory limbs. This isn't so bad for people who just want it for pieces or for display, because it looks nice enough if you show it from the armoured side. But for kiddies who want to play with him, it's a bit of a pain. Also, it's unfortunate for animaters like me, because then we can't really use it.

upper legs. For me, this is the worst part of the whole thing. I apreciate when something is asymmetrical, although I don't personally like it myself, but I feel that the thighs are way too asymmetrical. I don't like it, it is a pain for Moccists, because then we get pieces in odd numbers, and it just looks plain ugly. Also, mixing red and orange together like the designers have done doesn't really blend well. It's. Just. Too. Messy!

Arm. I like the idea; having the grotescuely huge arm along with a tiny arm gives off a cool mutant freak look. I think it may have been better with armour on the forearm, but oh well. One thing confuses me; why does Bruizer have a knife? He has a huge monster of a right arm, which could smash in a Hero's head with one sweep, and Bruizer still needs a little butter knife to defend himself? I don't think that makes much sense.

I think the face is okay... I definately like the Pyrovile look to it. Maybe his chin could be a teeny bit smaller, but I still like it.

One thing I don't like, however, is the fact that he has a trans medium green skull. If this is a guy who is glued together by magma, then surely it would suit the colour scheme better to have a trans orange skull? Besides, it would be good to have that new skull mold in red. It's not a big deal, because you cannot see it from the front, but still.

There is also a problem with the fact that you can see the liftarm on his arm from the front and from the left. It's a shame, because they did such a good job covering it from the right. Still, i understand that if it has too much armour, then the swinging action would not work nearly as well. Oh well.

And that's that. I'm going to rate this set in three different catogories; Toy value (how good it is to play with and pose ect.), Design Value (The design, including the colour scheme and how it was built) and Moccist Value (The amount of good pieces).
Here are Bruizer's results;
Toy Value: 2/5
Design Value: 1/5
Moccist Value: 4/5
Overall Value: 7/15
See ya next time with Bulk!

Great review! If I got Bruizer, he would just be moc-fodder... I just don't like him... But still, wonderful review and I agree with everything you said.
Indeed. That's really why most people would buy Bruizer |

Another good review man. With this one, I'm upgrading it. The liftarm feature is, I agree, a VERY good idea. It adds a certain amount of play to the figure (although it reminds me of Knight's Kingdom more than Bionicle) that these figures kind of need. But why Lego? Why that ugly lever? It doesn't look good. Again, nice review. Looking forward to the Furno review (and I know this is before the Bulk one, I just didn't mention it there :P)
I totally agree with everything you said, Brother. Thanks for the comment! |
