About this creation
So, this one has been sitting in my living room for well over two weeks. Completed. Waiting for me to set it up and take some pictures. Well, I found a moment to breathe after the Christmas season and decided that while I was breathing, I’d take a few photos.
After my VICtory Viper, I still had an urge to build a one-man fighter. I started out just building a ship with which I wanted to use the Falcon's canopy. I also wanted it to have a long nose and some extra engines. I wanted it to look fast and aerodynamic but still have the bulk that I usually put into my ships. About three quarters of the way through, I realized that I was building something that looked like an X-Wing fighter that had been hitting the gym. That’s when I decided that it needed an astro droid. Not something I would normally do, but I thought that it looked appropriate in this case, plus it was kind of a little poke at myself for missing originality by about 36 years.
The main pic is done with GIMP, and I want to thank Jon B especially for helping me with finding some new fonts. I like the character that the text adds to the pics. I’m feeling especially quick and to the point today, (well, quicker and more to the point than usual, anyway), so I’m going to shut up and just let you check out the ship.
May I present, the T-76 Spearhead.

I had such fun with the first photo, that I decided to edit a second. I may build ships just so I can edit photos.

A look at the cockpit without the fig.

Before this Christmas, I didn't have a lot of red and white, but I dipped into my limited supply of those colors to add a little character.

Thanks for checking it out. Let me know what you think.

I really like the smooth but greebled look of this ship and also how the X-shaped engines and the canopy give that nod towards Star Wars, without just copying it. The blend of greys plus black works very well, with those stripes bringing a touch of colour but don't distract the eye from the rest of the build. Looks fun to swooosh too! |

I don't know if I've received a better compliment than that right there. I'm thrilled that this work is going to make you belly up to the old drawing board. Thanks. |

Tim, I truly feel like this little fighter would be a successor to the X-Wing and E-Wing fighters and it also makes a bit of an homage to the Arc-170 fighters too if I am not mistaken. At any rate, I could easily see this fighter being around in the Star Wars: Expanded Universe novels and you did a good job on the build. The greeling was spot-on and it truly felt like it was something other than LEGO. |

Awesome. Reminds me of a Z-95 Headhunter with more engine bits added to it. Looks beasty ^_^ |
|
|
Wonderfully beefy!!! It's the love child of an ARC-170 Starfighter and an A-10 Thunderbolt. My only suggestion would be to eliminate the main thruster (I know, BLASPHEMY!!!) It seems to detract from the awesome X engine pods giving it less agility. Maybe a rear gunner would be a good replacement. All in all, it is a spectacular design for future airframes. I look forward to "more beef." |

Fantastic, Tim. You really managed to combine two contrasting design styles and it works. It looks like a heavy fortress which is also lightning fast and nimble. Just a little thought: If you plan using GIMP (or Photoshop or anything else) to put your model into a space scene, you should take the pictures in front of a black background, not a white one. That way, you avoid the thin bright outlines around your model.
Thanks, Thorsten. Is it ok to call you Thorsten? Glad you like the build. Taking photos to a black background is something I hadn't thought of, though I can't imagine why. Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can't come up with a black background for my next work. |

Thanks, Luke. Glad to hear from you. I worked with the angles a little more than I usually do with those engines, but it's an art I am far, far away from mastering;) Oh, and thanks for the advice on the cockpits. I'll make them a little more plain. I'd hate for people to expect too much of me;)

Thanks, Matthew! Always happy to hear from you, young Mastermind. Glad you like the ship, and that you have joined me in my crusade to keep puns from going out of style. Thanks for the comment on the cockpit, it's one of my favorites so far. Happy 2013 to you too, sir. |

Thanks, Mihe. I may have been kidding a little about the photo editing. I have to have a MOC to do it in the first place, right? I have to admit, I don't have a lot of time on my hands for editing my own MOCs, but if you want to send me a photo that you'd like to see in space, I'll see what I can do. tim_s_clark@woh.rr.com. The bulk of this little fighter is an interesting aesthetic decision. Stunting what one would expect (if they were thinking X-Wing) to be wings into thrusters gives this a sort of dragster feel. I really like the multiple cylinder boosters over one large piece, it's a technique I use and somehow seems more fitting to smaller faster craft. Is GIMP a free programme? I'm lucky enough to have photoshop at home, but would be interested to try an alternative based on this and your earlier results. Now I think if you can catch another breath, it is time to make that little 30-100 piece CS entry.;)
Thanks, David. I always appreciate what you have to say. Your comments are always so analytical and really takes my works apart to see the details that others tend to overlook. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you are somehow getting exploded views of my MOCs;) Yes, GIMP is free, which almost seems unfair to me. The effects you can get just with what comes with the program, (not to mention all the free brushes you can find on several websites), makes this program maybe a tad inferior to Photoshop, but still a very effective tool for photo editing. And I am working on the CS entry. Sheesh, the pressure. |

very cool. especially the cockpit. the only things i would do differently is put a bunch of 1 stud transparent blue or red pieces to the engine thrusters, just to give it some pop. also, that cone piece in the very back of the engine, i would turn 180 degrees so that it flows better. maybe even make it transparent blue or red too and add a transparent antenna to the tip of it
