My entry into the MELO: The Gates of Argonath
About this creation

I got a bunch of LotR sets for Christmas. But it was too close to the deadline for my tastes. I've had this thing built for about two weeks and am only now taking pictures. Procrastination, eh?
So I went with a miniscale version of the Argonath, seen at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring. I had tried to make them a little bigger, but I was not happy with the faces. So I went smaller. The intent was to make a displayable set, one that could fit on a bookshelf or a desk, be big enough to look good, but small enough not to take up too much space. This turned out perfectly!

The entire creation. The water was giving me a really hard time. I wanted to try and mosaic the water, but I got really impatient and went for simple trans-blue over a blue plate.

A side view of the creation. I sorted out all of my light grey/bley pieces, intending to make these bigger. I couldn't find any 1x1 plates in that color. So as you can see, I used a 1x1 stud in Isildur's statue.

The backside.

Another view. I tried attaching different clips and pieces to their "hands", but I think the piece I used works pretty well.

So I focused on the bricks behind it. Oops. But you get the gist. I used the clip on their heads angled differently to show their helmet styles. Also, the clip used for his beard turned out pretty well, although I had wanted to use 1x1 plates. Oh well.

Beardless!

Aerial view! I tried out a strange base shape, and I think it turned out pretty well.

The bottom of the plate.

The water. I had wanted to put the boats, but they would have to be the size of the "O" in the word LEGO printed on the studs. :P
Thanks for viewing! Good luck to the other contestants! And I want to thank Ian Spacek for hosting this thing. Great idea!

You know what this needed? Two of those little white teeth to be the boats. ;) |

Thanks for the great comments, guys! Even though I didn't advance to R2, I had a lot of fun imagining, researching, and building this MOC! Best of luck to the other contestants! |

Nice micro! I like the water technique; simple but effective for that size. |
