Frozen Lake
For Kenton Lanier's 2012 Christmas Contest. Those points are icicles. The lake is frozen over. It is filled with transperent blue bricks. And before you ask, IT IS built on a base smaller than 16 x 16. http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/21984

Nice one! Some pretty clever parts usage for the icicles. I'm wondering what's going on with the Interviews Group you invited me to. It could be due to MOCpages still having some glitches, but there's been zero activity so far. Just letting you know! Good build once again!

Oh, I forgot to mention a helpful hint for future reference. Links/html, etc. don't work in the "Introduction" section, so next time, put that in the "About this Creation" part. :)

Thanks for entering the Christmas Contest! 2/5 for originality/creativity; like Luke said, I think it was a very good idea, but you didn't quite realize the potential of it. Perhaps if you had made it larger you could have put some skaters, an ice fisherman, or something on top, and maybe some fish frozen underneath. 3/10 for build quality; not easily recognizable, and mainly uses basic bricks and techniques. 3/5 for presentation; the photos are bright and clear; a solid background would go a long way in making your creations stand out! Total score: 8/20.

3/5 for creativity. I like the idea, and I think that you could really do some awesome stuff with it. However, I think you fell short of making the best use of the idea, and you didn't quite convey it as well as you could have. 2/10 for build. Unfortunately, this just isn't striking a chord with me. I like the use of trans dark blue, and the icicle idea is nice. However, it is rather difficult to recognize this MOC as a frozen lake without reading the description. I think that building it in a box shape isn't the best choice, and if you made it larger and wider it would better resemble a lake. Also, the icicles seem large for a creation this small, and since they're both on one side they remind me of walrus tusks. Finally, the top could do with some refinement, tiling it would do wonders, perhaps with some rocks, greenery, or wildlife around. 2.5/5 for presentation. The photos are fairly clear, though they could do with better lighting. While I like that you realize the importance of a single background, perhaps choosing one without a checkerboard pattern would suit presentation better. Total: 7.5/20 Not the best score I've ever given, but I think that if you work on the issues that I've mentioned above that you could really improve. If you get some cardstock for a background and find a place with sunlight or several lamps, you'll be better able to photograph your models, and if you spend a bit more time refining your creations they'll be quite cool. All the best in the new year!

Hmm, looks like missed one of your MOCs! First off, great work with the coloring and detailing. Those splotches of white really add to your Frozen Lake. I also liked how you added that little bit at the side; it gives it a textured/realistic appearance! Overall, 5/5. Looking good! ~Mastermind *Edit: Added as a favorite builder to keep up with your MOCs; I have a bad memory and can't keep track of what people build. Cheers!

Quoting Matthew Oh 5/5 for creativity, very creative. 5/10 for build, cleaner build is better, and you could have made it bigger. 2/5 for presentation, a cleaner background, clearer photos, and bigger pictures is better. All in all, 12/20.
Thank you! I give your creations a 30/20. (Yes, I meant it!) I think that you should've won the MocOlympics!- Nate
