Gryphon
My favorite mythical creature: the mighty Gryphon!
About this creation
Installment two in my wing design experiment is a gryphon in the style of Warcraft, complete with dwarf rider. I thought it would be fun to use one of the new ldd parts to make the head. The wings in this version would be a little bit flexible but pretty fragile and likely quite droopy in real life, but it was a test to see how layering of feather parts would work.
Check out Pegasus for the first in my winged creatures series

My Gryphon and my Pegasus don't get a long I guess...

Here are some pictures with the lines on for those who like to see the bricks used. I'm looking at you Dave Benson! ;)

Quoting Guy Springer I must say, this model is brilliant in its mixture of technic ball joint elements and traditional system parts- I particularly like the double layered design of the wings, and even the specialized head piece looks like it fits. Nice work! I can imagine the kind of playability this would offer, if only color constraints weren't an issue.
Again, thanks for your thoughtful comments. I love those ball joints, they are so handy! I just wish they had more available connector types to go with the sockets. Those selfsame color constraints keep me coming back to LDD. I like the freedom to work with the colors without having to own as many LEGOs as Nannan!

I'm glad you like them :D If you liked those I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the 3rd iteration in that series "Great Eagle".

Quoting Tim C This is fantastic, Daniel. Love the wings! Great work on the head as well. Any chance we'll see this in ABS?
Possibly, although the design may be subject to some color and brick availability constraints in ABS. I recently built something from real bricks for the first time in over a year which I will post soon. Also I have a house in escrow with space for a lego workshop! In short, you can probably expect to see some more real brick creations soon, but I will probably still design a lot with LDD since I like using it, it is less expensive, and I can put any available color on any available brick.
