Well, what to say? It's been a while. I've been busy with other things past months, but now I have more time and I'm slowly getting back to LEGO building. AND the new LEGO sets are coming out... = )
So, this is not the best I could do for my "coming back", but I guess it'll do it until I upload some better stuff. I recently got my hands on the new CREATOR Minis, that got on the shelves in advance here. And so, here are my very first alternates with them: a race car and a race ship. ... Guess I was in a racing mood. BLAME NINTENDO LAND FOR THAT! ; )
About this creation
First, the Tuhnder Racer. Basic F1 style race car.
And now, the Race Ship. I was trying many different space ship designs and somehow managed to make something that looked very F-Zero like.
And you even can put it on a stand! Stand included!
EDIT: Now, I'd like to share my impressions of these two sets with you (if you want to hear it, of course):
31000 Mini Speeder is a good looking model for the main, but I was disappointed to see that THERE ARE ONLY TWO PLATES! No 2x4 nor 2x3, just one light grey 2x6 and a tiny red 2x2. But there is a LOTFUL of 2x1, don't you worry. Also, the colors are pretty nice and cleverly used, and the white wheels are a must have piece in your collection. Other negative point: NO FUNCTION! Overall, good, cheap set, but could have been better. Note: 6/10 It doesn't beat last year's Mini Fire Rescue. = P
31001 Mini Skyflyer, again, the main model is good looking, but nothing else. No function, odd number of rare pieces and the in-set alternatives are just... I'll let you judge for yourself. Positive points: lot of wing/fin elements, nice colors and the retractable wings are a pretty interesting function for a Mini. But the rest; I had a lot of trouble coming up with a decent alternate and the single, big baseplate of the plane... seriously, it's very limiting. Note: 4/10 I know some people will come up with very beautiful alternates, but for a beginner it may be hard.
Of course, this is my opinion. You may agree or disagree with me, and make your own opinion. But I'm being neutral when evaluating such sets, considering several characteristics.
I like both alternatives as the Thunder racer is a lot better than the official models and I happen to be a big fan of F-Zero (Though I already loved it before I got Nintendo Land) I'll make sure to try and make both! (I'll put loads of emphasis in "try" because both of the instruction links are broken) D:
