A heavy Space Police Tandem-Copter: The Rhino.
About this creation
After 5 months without editing anything!
-Yes, I'm ashamed! But I had a few things to do with my non-Lego-life-
I'm proud to present you the Rhino, a Super-Copter attached to the 3rd Space-Police theme edited in 2009-2010.
It was initially inspired by the ADU's awesome helicopter and by the real US Sikorsky CH-53 Stallion, A big flying bug.
Plus, I started the build from this so particular and giant windshield. It gave me the scale.

SORRY for the bad quality of pics, I really have to change my camera... Maybe for Christmas?...

Nasty, isn't it? I like this pic reminding my kid's books about planes and copters (Modern fighting planes).

The Rhino is served by two contra-rotative large blades.

With landing gears down. I wanted, from the beginning, to make retractable gears. The front one gave me some hard time: I finally got inspired by the box art of the last Creator set's Copter. Their solution was so simple and mine so complex... Tough job to be a Lego designer.
Note the main guns in landing position => explain the nickname of "Rhino".

From behing, you can see the alien's compartment loaded.

From above, it gives an idea of the size of this butterfly. The blue and DBGray stripes are not disposed at random: Those colors help crews to recognise each others: Fighting groups and squadrons.

The main turret: A couple of .50 Mass drivers. Short range, high rate of fire.

It can rotate 200° from left to right. Move 150° from bottom to top. The limits are given by gunner's view and... blades. :)

I built it to be able to carry these cool aliens'jail cells. It explains the depth of the body.

The Rhino was originally designed to receive modular weaponry.
Here: No rockets but an external tank for long distance missions.

High-Explosive rockets can be wether fired from forward or backward, giving the Rhino great escort abilities.

With Long Rang Missile.

With two Rockets'Launching pods. The firepower is ... freaking!! E.T.'d better go home!! ^^

Please note the rounded cone under the access ladder: It hides some of the passive ECM of the helicopter.

Others ECM, radar warning and Missile warning disposed on the frame (silver round plate).

I learned a lot from skilled builders who shared their tricks in Mocpages => So here is a pic to explain mine for the up-side-down 4x6 plate;
a SNOT technic directly taken from:
"The Unofficial LEGO Advanced Building Techniques Guide" by Didier Enjary -2007-.
This guide (pdf) is more than a bible. You cannot imagine all the treasures I've found in!!

Engines'view. Not complicated to build but so hard to match with the global shape.

Cockpit. Tandem seats and up to date features.

Note the individual weapons between seats.

These two minifigs are just great, they perfectly match!

A last one to appreciate the super-space-police-copter.

What is this blue/yellow liftarm, here?
You will know by looking my next (biggest) Moc: The Rhino's landing zone...
That's all, folks!!

Here I find the engines particularly successful acting very technical. But the cockpit is decked out awesome.

Quoting David Alexander Smith First of all, thanks for all the comments you spread over my MOCs. I really appreciate the time you must have taken doing that. This copter is pretty cool. The arrangement of the intake section around the blades has some nice angles. The alien cell is perfect; it is always nice to build a MOC around a playable function like this. Great work.
You're more than welcome! Thank you David for YOUR comments. Your creations inspired me a lot and I'm right now trying to build as simple as you do. Tough work... ;)

Quoting John W. I think it would look much better and be more practical without the rotors.
You know what? You're quite right!! No kidding. I remove the rotor each time I put it back in its store box and I'm surprised of the new cool design. Maybe I'll work again on it to add real wings. But, for now, I'm going to end the dio like that. Thanks for stopping by!

Quoting Chris Roach i like the intakes / engines under the rotors very much, well done!
Thank you for stopping by, Chris!! I really do appreciate it. Strangely, the engines were the parts I spent the less time on. It came naturally.

Quoting Nick Barrett I'm very glad you found time for your Lego life. I do hope everything is going well for you. Now then, this is a very fine spacey chopper thingy - love the prison cell transport system - and with some tricky SNOTtery... what you need is a boatload of technic half pins, they're the best piece ever! Welcome back :-)
Thank you, Mate!! Everything is just fine here in deep France... Lot of work, lot of things to do outside in summer and automn AND... my wedding to prepair (Yes! I've found the best and -most patient- one :). BTW, clearly half-pins were one of their best invention... Thank your for the cheers! Promise, I will try not to fly away too long from my building table.

Cool! A really nice - and big! - helo. The main body looks a bit like a future version of the russian Hind :-) Lots of cool details too, i like that alien cell and the various weapons.
