About this creation
The Ralph McQuarrie Concept with a touch of an over artistic license.
THE MAGESTIC.

I will say for now this is the final installment of my tribute series of the magnificent mind and artistry of Mr McQuarrie’s visionary concept for the models for the greatest tv sci-fi series, Battlestar Galactica.

Now the Galactica has been built in a similar style to his design. “Ok I did try even if it is not close”. Emulating his design was to say hard in many ways and a lot of fun giving me challenge after challenge. Where I was unable to replicate his concept. I attempted to make it look the part. In the 3 images I found on-line they varied in style, shape and perspective. So I compromised.

The engines have a simple looking style, straight lines and nothing overly difficult in construction. So it seemed, never the less I had three attempts to get it to look right.

The head of the craft is of similar design to the filmed model but is not as stream lined as the images I found. I felt it had to be strong and bulky to support itself. I was right !. Placing a slightly arched strap form stem to stern gave it some strength to the model allowed to be mostly self-supported.

The overall appearance is happily influenced by my need for detail. The massive landing bays attached to the main hull are very heavy.

When I flipped the beast over as carefully as I could, the landing bays decided to pull the top hull off. I had to re-build it before taking more photos. The landing bays on this model do not have the advantage of a lower side corridor attaching the bays to the underside main hull.

SO WHAT IS NEW ABOUT THAT. The same happened to my Valkyrie just before “KAPLOWIE “!!!!!. Not to worry they are short lived models anyway, I require the space and blocks for the next build.

With this model I have placed 120 high yield canons all around the hull, top, bottom, both sides, on the landing bays, main engines.

66 low yield canons everywhere else.

The dimensions of the Battlestar are as follows
LENGTH … 1920mm, 75.50 inches, 240 studs X
WIDTH … 730mm, 28.74 inches, 93 studs X
HEIGHT … 265mm, 10.43 inches, 34 studs.
WEIGHT … 22.574 kilograms, 49.77 pounds
Dare I say 19,958 elements.

Currently this build is on the bench in my way while I am constructing my next large build.

I may dismantle the Battlestar over the next few weeks between times of editing all the images I like.
CLOSE UP IMAGES

Well as a foot note to all of the above, my dog decided that the model was in his way and kindly pushed this wagon over, apart from scaring the crap out of himself and running off it made me jump a little then I had to make sure my boy was alright and then dismantle the remains. I hope you had a good laugh, I did.

Hope you enjoyed all these images.

such MOCs make me crazy.... a beautiful work in detail shaping size, blablabla - really stunning !! But one (maybe) stupid question - How often do you invest time for Lego ? Cause you built so fast so big ladys and they are also brilliant - that'S scary... ;-)
Thank you Mihe for your comment. I am glad you liked this build. For your not so stupid question I spend about 3 to 5 hours a night creating and building. Some nights are spent just working out a problem using different techniques and then sleeping on it. During the next evening complete that one task then move onto the next. Sometimes during a build I start another craft or two if I am waiting for parts and if I don't want to lose the idea. Cheers. |

So this is what you were working on all this time :)
It seems sad that these get deconstructed in the end. You'd think those TLG 'braintrust' would maybe take notice and offer to send you tons of bricks so long as you ship them the complete builds so that they can display them somewhere. They really are a bunch of *^%^&%^
Stunning work again, this one seems more sleek? But still sweetly detailed. The landing bays are just so very neat, and the graceful bow just looks great. Epic mate, epic.
Thank you Parrington for your brilliant comment. It would be nice to see all of my creations side by side collecting dust in an endless exhibition devoted to the Battlestars and Basestars. The endless supply of bricks being sent to me WOW what a nice dream that would be. Keep up your impressive series and I look forward the the next installment. Cheers

Man, what I wouldn't do for three months with your collection! That's all, just three months. But enough pieces envy;) You, sir, are incapable of anything shy of perfection. This is to par and then some of everything I've come to expect from a King build. It's hard to tell how large this thing is until you get a look at all the cannons. WHAT A MAMMOTH!!! The greebling is a major win for you on this one. In fact, the greebling you are able to accomplish I think we can call the Garry King style, because I haven't seen anyone else with such smooth, yet textured details as you pull off EVERY TIME. I love the planar feel of this one. The lines and corners are so sharp, yet seamless, which will always blow my mind. I'm always torn when I see your works between excitement of a new entry and disappointment that I have to wait for another. Great work, Garry!
Thank you Tim for your rather overwhelming comment. I am glad you liked this build and noticed the detail layering. I confess since my first Battlestar I was let down by my lack of elements so with that rectified I can produce almost studless creations.. Cheers for now and you won't have to wait too long for the next build. |

Again, awesome work, my friend!!

Magnificent build. Truly Harry I am jealous (in a possitive way). You must be building day AND night. Love all the details and yes give us more pictures . BTW do you put the pictures on brickshelf (resolution is better and it gives the possibility to zoom on all of the details)
Thanks a lot for sharing Thank you Paul for your comment. I am happy that you and Harry enjoyed these images and yes there are heaps more but to add them all takes up too much space. Your stunningly prolific building prowess is overshadowed only by your tremendous skill! This series has been downright mind-blowing. And while I'm sad to see it come to it's completion, I'm happy to look forward to your next creation. Brilliant work, Gary, and thanks so much for sharing! |

This is simply an incredible rendition -- I actually prefer this engine design to the TV version! |

Breathtaking images! You made great photos of an great starship. Also i like the Valkyrie more, i think your Galactica is very rightfull designed, supported by your magnificant skills. Most i like the bowed-angles of the front element. And i am still amazed by your technological-surface-designes. |

This is one awesome ship! Love all the details! |

News from the grand master himself!! I tip my hat of to thee:-) This is without a doubt the best big scale spaceship I have ever seen. I would be nice to see some construction pics, maybe to give us an idea of the build itself. Does it just stay inside or do it get shown to audience?? Master work from You:-)

Another insane build by the Grand Master! I see the similarities to the final production model, especially the proportions of the landing bays. Although I still like your original battle wagon, the amount of detail on this one is really impressive. And I see where you're going with all this, too, from the parts I see throughout... Again, awesome work, my friend!! |

Holy cow, you know it's huge when you're greebling with 4x8 cone panels! Beautiful work, did you get a chance to display it at any shows?

This would be a case where the oft' overused "epic" would actually be applicable. |

Magnificent build. Truly Harry I am jealous (in a possitive way). You must be building day AND night. Love all the details and yes give us more pictures . It's simply great and it surely inspires many AFOLs to improve their constructions. It surely does something to me. BTW do you put the pictures on brickshelf (resolution is better and it gives the possibility to zoom on all of the details)
Thanks a lot for sharing |

You have a scary talent, this is model making of the highest order. I guess you have a scary number of buckets of grey Lego bricks too. |
