Arkus was a "Le-Matoran" originally from Metru-Nui, who came off a bit strange. His elemental structure was more of the plantlife than the air. He had no interest in the city duties, interaction with the Toa Metru, or any sort of sport. He actually had no sort of idea of where he came from. The city wasn't the place for him. His solo personality earned him many things, one being the undivided attention of the cities Vahki, another the friendship of a Po-Matoran named Zephyr, and one other the thing, the affection of a certain Ga-Matoran named Tara. Though she wouldn't give him the time of day, became one of his many interests. After many failed pursuits and many dismantled Vahki, Arkus was captured while running and put into a matoran pod. However, his rescue was not as fortunate as the rest of the Matoran of Metru Nui.
In the Toa Metru's rescue of the Matoran, his pod was lost at sea. Despite Vakama's protests, his pod wasn't made priority. His pod washed up on an island called Rouka, and once again he felt alone. He walked for weeks until finally reached a place he felt at home, the forest. The villagers there were like him, of the forest rather than of the air. Arkus met Nevrahl, another Matoran of the green and the two became great friends. Nevrahl turned out to be Arkus' younger brother and the two grew close. He felt this was his real home. He spent many years there as a warrior class Matoran, battling in the Arena Rouka, where he furnished his battling skills and become more Toa-like in ablitiy. Iruni, in his traveling to Rouka for Toa candidates, noticed the potential in Arkus and presented him with two tasks. The task of becoming a Toa, on his own, and the task of training with Iruni after he had succeeded in transforming into a Toa. Arkus found himself pitted against "Crawler", a dark hunter, who was stationed to guard the Toa stone. "Crawler" was the matoran told to be the next Toa of the green, but in his pride he was mutated into eight-legged creature by a chemical spill and Arkus was foretold to be his replacement ."Crawler" proved formidable and it seemed impossible to conquer. However, Arkus, using his knowledge of trapping and immobilizing, "Crawler" was subdued and Arkus was able to accomplish his first task. He became a Toa. Using his new found strength, he was able to keep "Crawler" at bay and leave the cave. After returning, Arkus trained for months under the advisory of Lewa and Iruni. Both of his teachers were well versed in the use of Air, never the jungle, but Lewa was able to train him in the use of katana and Iruni was able to train him in the use his mask, the Kualsi. His powers came more naturally. He became well fashioned in the use of Katanas and the use of his element.
Now, as a Toa, Arkus was a member of a six member team called the Toa Arkada. The other five members are: Kahryo, Toa of Magma, Kahlibur, Toa of Ice, Tara, Toa of Water, Lumia, Toa of Light, and Zephyr, Toa of Lightning. They currently reside on Rouka as guardians of their respective cities. They also compete in the Arena Rouka as Toa against wandering Toa, and other warriors for battling championships. Arkus currently holds three, and is in the semi-final round of the Champions Elemental tournament competing for a fourth championship title. Arkus is also in a serious relationship with Tara, much to the chagrin of the Turaga.
Personality and Abilities
Arkus is a very strong minded young man, often expressing his opinion, but he is also very laid back and fun loving. He often cracks jokes towards his team members and pokes enemies catching them off-guard. Despite this, he takes battles and the well-being of others very seriously and keeps the mission his first priority. He also has a bit of an over-reactive tendency, becoming immensely angry when certain aspects of his past are brought up, such as things concerning his father Aerokahn, a great being of air or his mother Akina, mistress of the forest. His anger has driven him to maliciously wound his enemies, only to be stopped by his friends. His battle style is very analytical and observant, as he analyzes each attack and movement of his opponent before striking and finding weak spots, so that his victory is swift and easy. He often gets into trouble with the Turaga, for his insensitivity during political meetings. He, Kahryo, and Zephyr appear to be a close cluster of friends. They also make up the original half of the team. His favorite color is navy blue, and he loves to draw in his spare time.
His abilities are essentially similar to that of a Toa of Air, when it comes to acrobatics and agility. However, on an elemental level he has little power over air, but his power over the jungle is very strong. He can control vines and roots at his will and can maneuver leaves through the air. He also moves a giant vine underground that he can use to ride from place to place or for use in battle. He relies heavily on his swords and melee attacks, as well as his acrobatics. He also uses a sort of armor tactic in which he creates a body cast of vines and roots. He also is very extensive in the use of poisonous plants, to paralyze his enemies, but also in the use of medicines and cures. He has used these powers to create a personal bridge system over Rouka for getaways, dates, and training.
Fourth Wall Commentary
Well this is my self-moc. The idea of this MOC was initially spawned in late 2010 when I wanted to create a sort of young Iruini, but piece restrictions wouldn't allow for it. After a collection of random pieces fell into my lap. I got to work. I added a bit of black to fill in where I lacked green and it worked nicely. When the idea was originally conceived, I wanted to create a MOC of both traditional and custom style's. I did take greebling into context also.
I also wanted to reflect the training and influence of his teachers, that's where the Katanas came from. They are both just Lewa's with handles. Continually the gold is an allusion towards Iruini. The true color scheme of a Toa of the Green is green and blue, which came off as ugly in the design phases, so I added gold. In the story his armor is plated gold.
