About this creation
The Ogre Combat Mecha is the Conglomerate's newest bipedal warmachine, easilly surpassing all previous efforts at making a viable combat mech. While we still convinced that mechs are inferior to tracked and hover tanks, the Board of Directers insisted that the enemy must not have even a theoretical advantage in any way over the glorious Conglomerate, it was decided that a new mech would have to be built from the ground up. The result: the Ogre, a state of the art 19 ft. tall mecha armed to the teeth with advanced firepower.
The Ogre is unmanned and powered by a onboard fussion reacter, giving it the large amounts of power needed for it's demanding requirements. The Ogre's onboard AI is, like always, fully integrated into The Swarm, but for independant thought it was given the new AX-19 processor, making it our most advanced and intelligent hard AI yet, even outperforming humans. Armor is a mix of advanced lightwieght composites and carbon nanotube plates, with limited self-repair capablity. Despite all this, the armor still fails to compare to our more conventional armored vehicles due to difficult to armor joints and not being to use sloping techniques.
The Orge's firepower is no slouch either. It was determined earlly on in the program that mechs simply can not use high-recoil weaponry without bracing themselves, effectively ruining the concept of firing on the move. Missiles, while low-recoil, are often ineffecitve unless used in huge quantities due to the ever more popular use of APS. One feature that all mechs share in common is their taller hight than conventional vehicles, which plays exactly to a directed energy weapons strenghts. Therefore, it was decided that the primary weapon of the Ogre would be a 1.1 Megawatt laser, capable of decimating armor, infantry, and aircraft alike. Due to it's lightspeed and it's robotic accuracy, the laser has a extremely high success rate and made other onboard APS uneeded.
To complement the laser, the Ogre is also armed with a 4 anti-tank misiles, two double-barreled 50mm anti-hardsuit smart-grenade launchers, and a low velocity 75 mm railgun. The railgun is still capable of taking down all but the most armored targets, and due to it's relatively low power and projectile size, minimal bracing is required and 25 shells can be carried.
One final feature of the Ogre is it's previously classified SmartSkin, a revolution active camouflage system capable of fooling both visual and infared detection first developed for the URF-6-"Hawk". Tiny panels cover the entire outer surface of the Ogre, and are both making it almost invislbe to the human eye and rapidly reducing or increasing it's thermal profile. This tech is highly exspensive, and therefore are only used on the most valuable combat vehciles in the Conglomerate Armed Forces, although it is exspected that SmartSkin will become more common as it becomes more economical. Unfortunately, it can not be applied to hover vehicles due to their thrusters ruining the effect for both infared and visual detection. This is a full list of the hardware that uses Smartskin:
Ogre Combat Mecha
UHB-"Ibis" stealth bomber
HMBT-R-500 Behemoth tanl
URF-6-"Hawk" Unmanned Air Superiority Fighter
(author's note: this is my first ever dedicated combat mech, and I'm proud to say I did all the work on it myself :) Of course, I would be happy to do a joint-project mecha sometime in the future...)
