An entry for the 2012 MIT, Round 2
About this creation

Category: "Life size object: Choose a real life object (anything you wish) and build it in brick! Please include a picture of yourself, or someone you’ve conned into helping you, with the object so that we can see the proper size."
Bob Moog has the "Little Phatty" and Dave Smith has the "MoPho". But enough of the synthesizer pioneers. I bring you the Shifu "Girth" ... on the other hand, scratch that ...

This prototype synthesizer was inspired by 25-key synths like the Arturia MiniBrute. Unfortunately, I only have enough pieces for 24 keys ... Hmmm, maybe I should call this synth "MidgetBrute" ... moving on ...

Power indicator, power switch, and master volume knob.

Sliders and buttons.

Knobs, knobs, and more knobs.

Keyboard.

Back (just for Kelso).
Oh, you want me to touch it? The synth, I mean ...

Adjusting the volume.

Pushing a button.

Setting the slider.

Fondling the knobs ... that did not come out right ...

That's F minor for y'all.

Pluggin' it (Shut it, Phippy).

Synthesizer group shot.

Mandatory pose with the MOC.

Go ahead. Tickle some ivories. XD

Nice keyboard! I can hardly tell it apart from a real one. The knobs and buttons are excellent! Looks like were up against each other in round three. Its probably going to be a difficult round for me. Good luck to you. :) |

I'll avoid innuendo (since when do you need my help with that?) and merely point out this is stunning. Clean, detailed, convincing and well worthy of the praise it's getting here and on several blogs. And the whinging you did about this category too! You obviously need more subjects you don't really want. Well done mate, a great job. |

This looks fantastic. Even though I've been active on this site for a while now and I should be over this by now, I clicked on this to convince myself that it was built completely out of LEGO. The keys are perfect and the sliders look great. Real creative parts usage to get that look. Very well done and good luck. |

Quoting Michael Rutherford
Master and Commander Shifo! How did you do those little slider bottons? square plate, round plate, tile? I can't figure it out. The jacks on the back are money. Attack!
Mr. Rutherford, it's this piece http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=4081b sandwiched between 2 1x1 tiles. Cheers! |

Oh man that turned out better than I could ever have imagined. Are you sure that's Lego? Looks so real. Too real in fact... I think you've performed some hypnotic mind trance on us to lead us to think you built it when in fact you just went down to the local music store and bought a real keyboard... |

Awesome Shifu! Then again, why would we expect any less from your leetness? I have seen this category done many times in the last few years but I have to say, this is the best life size replica I have seen done with Lego by a long shot. Its clean (apart from the write-up) and really makes me nostalgic about my own kiddie piano I had 24 years ago! A huge well done! ~Thoy |
