MO round 3 Lego Obsessionist vs. Tom Remy
Optical Illusions
About this creation
Lego Obsessionist vs Tom Remy (his amazing entry)
Illusionist: Build an optical illusion in Lego form. For inspiration of what kind of thing we're talking about, check out Legohaulic's awesome work here. (DO NOT COPY THIS, only for inspirational purposes
and to show you the kind of thing we're looking for.)

I've built three illusions. The first, above, is a lion/hand. The other two are motorized. The barber shop pole gives the illusion of moving stripes, and shape appears to be changing size, although it is really a solid square.

They keep telling Gorbluk the Gross that using Gringotts is a trademark infringement on the bank... Some goblins just won't listen.

Well, given my opponent's fantastic showing, I'll just say here that it's been an amazing run. I really enjoyed this year's games, and will continue to whether or not I make it to the next round. The MOCs can only get better! Thank to the judges for an amazing contest and letting me through the first two rounds.

Impressive illusions! As the creator of this category, I was hoping for a little bit more of what Tom brought to the table, so unfortunately my vote goes to him. You've done a stellar job this far in the contest and it's a shame to see you go.

My vote goes to your opponent. Well-played though, that loin is really good, the changing shape worked well, good Idea to motorize.

Don't underrate yourself! When I look at your build, it shows you did put a lot of work into this! In my opinion, it was on of the most difficult category of this round! Even if I don't really build anythings, this one didn't inspire me! So, you've done a nice job! Good luck to you!

You mean like this? http://www.illusionspoint.com/scary-optical-illusions/hand-or-lion-face/ It does work better when flat and monochromatic.
Yes! I found that illusion through Google, but after the build I couldn't find it again for a reference pic.

Hi there! Don't put yourself down... I think we both had the same trouble with this category, and tried different ways. I may have come up with something bigger, I still think luck had a lot to do with the final result... After a few days, I had 4 WIPs and only one working illusion (the checkerboard). Had three of my illusions turned out bad, I wouldn't have had the time to do something else. I understand you intended to do something with shadows, but probably changed your mind. Maybe the lion/hand was not the good choice, but it could have turned out better, who knows? Anyway, The judging is not through, so you have to keep a positive spirit, don't you? :) Now I have to tell you: your red square thingy is excellent. A few more like this, and I would have been the one who puts hisself down... Good luck with the judges! --Tom--

Nice effect with the red square - I think your opponent has this one but I'm not a judge, so who knows..? Anyway, good luck!

HA, these are great! :D I saw Tom's entry, and while it was amazing, I really liked how yours included more functions than his. Best of luck to both of you, you've done amazingly so far! :D

Quoting MCLegoboy ! Aw... Don't put yourself down. You still have some good stuff. The Lion Hand thing is pretty silly I'll admit, and the Barber Poll is easy to figure out, but had I not known how the pulsing shape works, I'd have been amazed at that. You still had some good stuff though.
I wish I could find the original lion-hand image... Of course it's more effective as a 2d, black-and-white drawing.
