About this creation
Category: Star Wars vs. Star Trek: Which universe would win in a knock down, drag out war? Show us your version of a battle between the two Sci-Fi giants! Is it the Enterprise destroying a Star Destroyer? Or maybe some Storm Troopers mowing down a bunch of Red Shirts? Construct the ultimate face-off!
I took "face-off" and "Sci-Fi giants" rather literally. I think it's quite obvious which universe would win in my opinion!
"Luke I am your father." ~Vader
Just to make the judge's lives easier.
I call this sketch: "In the Clutches of the Empire." Vader is controlling a large mechanical version of himself. Poor Mr. Spock! Initially I was going to have busts of both Vader and Spock arm wrestling. Unfortunately, however, I was faced with the hard reality of life over Lego. Here's what I could conjure up in the very limited time I had. It would've been fun to entirely finish Vader's helmet, but no such luck. This also happens to be my first Star Wars related MOC.

Giant Vader emerges from the background.

That notorious face. I don't think I've ever played with crazier angles, ratios, or techniques. Mini-fig Vader enjoys playing the brains of the thing.

Spock stands bravely (with his gun) in the palm of Mega-Vader's robotic hand. Every Goliath has his David.
Bonus pics: Star Trek 3 dimensional chess-board (description below):

Very early on, I was brainstorming for ideas with my Dad (an X-trecky). He suggested building Vader and Captain Kurk playing three-dimensional chess (from Star Trek). I thought it was a brilliant idea and built the chess-board, but building the characters at the necessary-scale proved too time consuming. Long story short: I scrapped the idea, but just thought I'd include pictures of the board anyway. Who knows, maybe Spock and Vader can settle their differences with it.

"Search your feelings, you know it to be true." (~Phipson *ahem* ~Vader)
Live long and prosper, and may the force be with you.
Thanks for stopping by, and Soli Deo Gloria!

Nice entry! Personally I preferred your opponent's, but the other two judges decided your fate. Good luck in Round 4!
That's a very reasonable call; Luke entered an absolutely fantastic build, and is definitely deserving of at least one of the votes. In all honesty I was rather surprised by the outcome, though I'm not going to complain! :) Thank you for all the work you judges put into this contest, I really appreciate it. |

IMO you both unfortunatley failed at giving the epic battle of wars vs trek I was hoping for, its basically wars with a little trek on both MOCs. I have to pick one and vaders face wins the day. you have my vote!
Thank you for your vote Chris, I really appreciate it. Though you're quite right, it seems the force is much stronger in Luke and I than the trecky. ;) |

A well-deserved win! Stunning work, that helmet looks every bit as complicated as I'm sure it was. And you're matched against Heath... this is gonna be interesting. We all know what you whipped out last time you were up against that pirate. I wish you luck! |

When it comes to destiny, some things are just meant to be. You made it through round three, and now you have to face off against me. Who the best builder will be? We'll very surely see. Though the outcome isn't one I can foresee, I dost accept thy challenge from thee. In other words.....GAME ON!!!!
Heath's a poet, this poem doth show it! Thanks for the comment Heath, challenge accepted! ;) We've both definitely come a long way since the MIT. Just wait, now the judges will probably change how the match-up system works. |

Hey Ian, congratulations on moving on! Great way to use your time effectively and create a really out of the box MOC, it definitely payed off. Best of luck in future rounds, I'm rooting for you!
Hey Luke, thanks for the kind words. You're an admirably good sportsmen, and it's been an honor facing you. This round has only served to increase my esteem for you as a person and a builder. In all honesty, I was surprised by the outcome (not complaining here, but I was definitely surprised). Thanks so much for your supportiveness! Looks like I'll be having a re-match with Heath. *cracks knuckles* Let's make this a fight for the TFOL (pl)! ~Ian |

Congrats on getting through, Ian :) I really liked the metaphorical concept here, the large hand of the more powerful ready to crush its weaker opponent. Though its not the take the judges were after, I think it works really well. ~Thoy |

Ian, this is amazing! The way you captured the helmet design is just phenomenal, I can't even begin to fathom how difficult those angles must have been. Brilliant take on the category, and stunning entry. Best of luck with the judges, you've definitely been sandbagging everyone with those comments about how your creation wouldn't be done properly. ;)
Well, prior to yesterday afternoon, I had a 4 day vacation, a PSAT test, a house guest, and of course a heavy load of school to contend with. I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to get an entry in. The past day and a half have been Lego mania (I'm nearly sick of the brick). Anyhow, thanks for the comment Luke. Best of luck to you too, though I doubt you'll really need it! :) |
