My worthy opponent, LB Senior

Category: Sculpture: Leonardo did the Venus De Milo, Auguste Rodin gave us The Thinker. What will you give us? Produce a sculpture worthy of The Louvre. Choose a famous statue and show us your brick built version. Please provide a link to the original so we can compare.

My entry, a model of the iconic“Partners” statue at the Disney theme parks.

For your viewing pleasure, please enjoy this Main Street USA background music while looking at this MOC:

For those that are unfamiliar with my building, or haven’t noticed, I’m a huge Disney fan. And I mean HUGE! The Disney parks have always inspired me in one way or another, so it’s no surprise that I enjoy paying homage to them in LEGO® bricks. When I found out my category for this round, I knew I just had to build what I have a passion for; Walt Disney.

The “Partners” Statue of Walt and Mickey holding hands was first added to Disneyland in 1993, and then later replicated and added to each other Magic Kingdom throughout the world. Built by the legendary Imagineer, Blaine Gibson, the statue stands in the central hub of the park at the end of the always-pristine Main Street USA, serving as a “wheel spoke” for access to all of the other lands. Walt holds out his arm, leading Mickey to the future. Because after all, “there’s a great big, beautiful tomorrow!”

But enough of the history lesson. Let’s go to the pictures…

The plaque at the base of the statue reads:
"We believe in our idea: a family park where parents and children could have fun - together."
Walt’s quote truly signifies that magic of the park, and has led the ideals of the company over the years.

I am especially proud of how Mickey came out. I just love his ears and nose!

The back of the statue.

Cinderella’s Castle from WDW, added as a bonus for some forced perspective in the first picture.

A popular activity of the parks, getting your picture taken with Walt and Mickey.

This guy’s not too excited for paying a lot of money just for a single churro at the popcorn stand.

A detail that could not be missed, the atmospheric, turn-of-the-century gas lamps found on Main Street.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Best of luck to my opponent, and thanks to the judges for their time spent in making this a success!

Well done! Instantly recognizable, and some nice additions to the surroundings. Interesting use of the castle in a fp shot, since it was actually constructed to create a forced perspective when viewed from the street, height restrictions and all. Anyway, strictly looking at the sculptures, I think the Mickey character adds that extra bit of complexity and parts usage to push you over the top, so you get my vote. Good luck with the other judges!

I know you like Disney, but I'm more of a Universal kind of guy. Your builds are good though so you still get my like.

Awesome! I was just at Walt Disney World last August right after Star Wars Celebration VI! I think you did a really good job with the statue! I laughed when I saw the picture of the minifigure buying his expensive churro! You have a point there, everything's expensive in the Disney parks. I remember a bottle of water was $4.00! That's crazy! But of course you have to buy water anyway.....
