The Land of Lucas!
Ye Olde Game
Ahhh, Candy Land! A game of skill and daring, where players draw cards and move ahead! Such finesse is needed to win this game.
The category:Stuart Lucas vs Tyler Halliwell
Board Game: Build a real boardgame (monopoly, connect 4, Sorry and so on) out of Lego. Please provide a link to something showing the original game (wikipedia works well for reference here but don't feel like you HAVE to use it). You will be judged on accuracy and difficulty level. Anyone can build a chess board with a bunch of squares but to build "Mousetrap" or a working version of "Operation," ...now that would be tough.
My sisters were kind enough to play the game while I took the first photos.

Kate pondering the board. Since Candy land is a really confusing and tough game, she needs to take a while to decide her move. Will she move her pawn forward or forward? Decisions, decisions.

This game really is quite tough.

The field from which the players start. A happy place, it heralds the beginning of the journey through Candy Land! Also, it comes with a sign showing the way to the Gingerbread Plum Trees.

The first characters we meet are Plumpy and the Mother Gingerbread Tree. Residing in the Gingerbread Plum Trees, Plumpy sits beneath the Mother Gingerbread Tree and eats Plums. He is a happy fellow and likes his life.

Next we come across Mr. Mint. He lives in the Peppermint Forest and spends his days cutting down Candy Cane trees. Mr. Mint is a tall, jolly fellow.

The Gumdrop Mountains are the next location. Usually Jolly the gumdrop guy resides here, but he is away on vacation. I think a lack of pink Lego bricks may have made him decide to leave. We may never know. Don't get stuck in the gooey gumdrops!

Oh no! It is the evil Lord Licorice! As the only antagonist in this happy land of candy, Lord Licorice must work extra hard to seem foreboding. His bats help, as does his licorice-y color scheme of red and black. (Lord Licorice was the most fun to build and may stay on my shelf for a while. He can become friends with Hellboy.)

Licorice Castle is the place of residence of Lord Licorice. Also built in his scary colors, it isn't a very fun place to visit.

Oh look! A sign to Grandma Nut's Peanut Brittle House! A "squirrel" is sitting on top. How cute!

Grandma Nut is a kindly woman who likes to grow peanuts. Her Peanut Brittle House has seen better days but will always be cozy and welcoming to visitors.

Ah, and looky here! Another sign, this one to the Lollipop Woods! Let us venture forth!

Princess Lolly lives in the Lollipop Woods. Here she dances and prances in trances. Fun times!

Queen Frostine lives on the Ice Cream Sea. She waves her wand and does something, but no one is sure what. Lord Licorice seems to be quite jealous of her location, as Licorice is not a very fun candy. Ice cream, although not actually a candy, is much sweeter and well liked. Don't cry, Lord Licorice, don't cry.

Ooh, look, it's Gloppy, a resident of the Molasses Swamp. He may look mean, but he is really quite a good amorphous blob. Look at him waving his arm nubs at us as we pass!

King Candy rules over Candy Land. Contrary to his name, he actually likes ice cream more than candy. He lives at Candy castle, constructed of Ice Cream, and it is the goal of this strategic game to reach him.

The players who are a part of this game are none other than members of the Halliwell family. Here we see dad, always near the back, finally being lucky and taking the Rainbow Bridge. You can do it, good sir!

Kate is next. She is just outside of the Gumdrop Mountains. Stay out of those Gooey Gumdrops, Kate!

Anne is right behind the Licorice Castle, luckily out of sight of Lord Licorice.

AS I wave to Grandma Nut, I try and catch up to mom, who is way in the lead. (Thanks again, Hans, for the Woody legs.)

Mom, rocking her cool aviator sunglasses, is on her way to the Lollipop woods. It doesn't look good for the rest of us.

The Candy Land board. I almost was caught in a trap when I almost purchased the newer game version, which is lacking Gloppy and many other characters. I was able to borrow my childhood version and so here we stand.

Lastly, here are the characters again. Ignore Jolly. He's a weirdo anyway.
Thanks to the judges for giving me a random but fun category. Also, thanks to my mom for surprising me with the pink brick bucket on Friday, saving the Ice Cream Sea from utter destruction. Lastly, good luck to my competitor, who I am sure will put on an awesome showing. Thanks for viewing!

Tyler,
As I cringe every time a child in my class asks me to play this mind-numbingly boring game, I'm glad you've finally made a version I can enjoy!

Lots and lots of interesting details to explore. Your version of Queen Frostine gave me a good laugh. An all-amazing recreation of a boardgame and a well deserved win. |

Well done Tyler, with all the imagination and creativity you put into this build you deserved to go through. Thanks for being a challenging and gracious opponent and I'm backing you to save my blushes and go a long way in the contest. Forget what I said earlier about schoolwork, you've got the rest of your life to be a responsible adult...! :-)
Thanks man. It was a fun category and a good contest. Hopefully I can make it past this next round and keep moving on. |

Wow I've never seen this before either, both you and Stuart built amazing creations for this round and also showed me something I've never seen before! Well, like I said to your opponent, I'm glad this round is already decided as I can't pick a winner, both entries are equally awesome in totally unique ways. |

This was a tough one. I almost gave my vote to your opponent because his build was cleaner than yours, but since the judging criteria for this category is based off of accuracy and difficulty, your entry earned my vote. I really like your Lord Licorice, just be careful in the upcoming rounds not to sacrifice a clean build for a big one. |

Well Tyler, that's one *uhm* SWEET build! I don't know the game at all, but it sure looks yummy. The figures are fantastic, I adore that grandma and the lollipop girl. Are the moving fields attached? They look so randomly spread on the board. And where's the dice? Good luck with your judges!
They are attached, just not well. And there are no dice in Candy Land, silly! This game is far too simple for those. |

Incredible! The figures are so sculpted and recognizable! I never played the game before, but saw it lots of times, and I knew what this was before I read the title! I can tell it should be VERY tough... ;) *confident look* :| Now, does it fold up? ;D Haha, Good luck man!
On it's way downstairs, the board had to do some unintentional folding to get through doorways. So yes, it folds a little, but it is not recommended. :) |
