Introducing a Lego G1 transformer Decepticon captain ¡V Megatron, at scale matched with my Lego Optimus and it is fully transformable.
About this creation
There are 2 missions I planned to complete before I started this project. Firstly, to manage the gun mode into real human size pistol ¡VWalther P38. Secondly, the size of the robot mode should be compatible with my Lego Optimus Prime along with all other Legoformers, which are all under mini figure scale. Ideally, Optimus would be slightly taller than Megatron. Also the transformation process should be maintained the same as the original, or close to, and does not involve detaching or re-assemble any part.
I could finally accomplish to build a magatron looks like this is just a matter of luck. If you take a look at the original G1 toy robot mode and you could recognize the look is too far from what the cartoon is showing. The recent years released Takara Master Piece looks fantastic on both modes, however its transformation process is too complicated and takes too long to get it transformed. The gun mode is too big in compare with the real. I recognize that if I make the gun mode by Lego under a human size, I could not completely immitate the MP transformation and copy to my MOC because of the limitation of the parts.

The Walther P38 is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol that was developed by Walther as the service pistol at the beginning of the World War II. Specification : weight 800g and length 8.5 inch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_P38).
My MOC is more or less close to the real size of P38 and with length at 8.5 inch.

Its wide is about 4 stud. Before I started to build this, I recognised that it would be a hard mission because if I wanted to make it a real human size, I have to manage the wide into 4 studs. Anyway, I made it. The designing process is difficult to me because the 4 studs wide gun is to be spread into half - left and right. Which means each side can have only 2 stud length containing the transformation engineering, and at the same time to control the stability and make sure it is not going to be too fragile.

Start to transform!

To release the little tile that use to connect the middle and the back part of the gun.

The legs folded forward and become vertically in line with the body. 3 hinges are used on each side of the leg to create a "Z" way folding system.

Extend the legs.

I have designed a build in lifting unit inside the torso by using a pair of bar and clip to produce a sliding system. That is just what the original design is.

See the frame which is supporting the arm is made up by a 1 stud supporter. Therefore, the arms cannot hold anything heavy. But for making pose and display, I would say it is alright.

Finally, to extend the arms by strength the 2 units of sliding system, and flip out the the hand.

Transformation completed!

Optimus Prime and Megatron!

Coming soon, 2 autobot minibots - beachcomber and huffer.

Under construction, G1 Decepticon Starscream. Still too far away.

Thank you for watching!
P.S One more photo is added as request to show how the transformation engineering works.

Quoting alex wong: Thanks! I have added one more photo at the last to shows the system.
Actually, I was asking about the part under that... Where the legs attach, transform, and have that amount of articulation. Sorry if my previous comment came off wrong. Oh, and can anyone explain to me how to quote? As you can see above I don't know how.
Ok, I will try to put one or two more to show it then, no worries. |

Astounding job! They way you have the legs and arms slide to extend is simply amazing. Great job matching the size up with your Optimus too. I'm looking forward to seeing your Starscream. I did my own version of a jet having the cockpit twist and fold back in on itself, which was the toughest part. Check it out and see if it gives you any ideas.
Thanks! your jet will definitely be one of the good reference for me to build the Starscream.

Absolutely incredible. It may not be as detailed or look as nice as your Optimus, but like you said you had more limitations with the gun mode. I find it amazing how perfect you made robot mode, I'm not very good at Transformers myself, so I respect your talents even more. Also a very nice surprise was the photo the beginnings of Starscream, which I can tell you I'm very, very excited to see. I hope it doesn't take too long ;) Thank you for sharing your awesome creations! :) |

trasformation is simply incredible, the engineering of this moc make it simply perfect, i hope you'll make a new arm cannon lihgter than that, but this moc is really perfect!!!
Thanks Haran. Right, perhaps I can make a lighter and smaller cannon just for the robot mode megatron. Good idea.
