Mission 13 - The Kessel Riots
Mission Briefing: Our ships along the outer rim have intercepted multiple distress signals being sent out of the Kessel system, and it is believed that these signals represent a cry for help as Confederate General Zian Finnis continues to evade capture, leading a revolt out of the prison to cover his escape from the planet. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine has ordered the 457th Corps to pursue into the Kessel system moving the fleet to take a dangerous hyperspace jump into the asteroid field to intercept Finnis' ships. We have attempted to establish contact with the local Republic garrison stationed on Kessel, although we have received no response. Reconnaissance units have been deployed throughout the star system and the unpredictable terrain has led commanding officers to strongly recommended that all units be equipped with hazard gear with a suitable filtration system to ensure that our troops can operate in such hostile territories. Our current objective is to contain the situation and intercept the enemy ships as well as regain control of all facilities and command posts in the area. Our first target will be to invade the detention centers located throughout the planet and lock down the spice mines. The recently captured CIS General Zian Finnis has been reported to be leading this revolt from within the prison, with his fleet in orbit around the planet providing battledroid support. It is imperative that order is brought to Kessel immediately, to ensure no high value prisoners make it offworld, and to ensure the Republicís spice trade is not halted throughout the outer rim.
Mission 13.1: Prison Break
Our surveillance of the Kessel surface tells us that the prisoners have discovered the location of the F9-TZ transports used by the Galactic Republic to mine spice on Kessel, which is critical to trade across the galaxy. All opposing sides in this battle have directed their attention to these transports, as the prisoners wish to escape and the CIS have found their next target to destroy. The docking bay is housing several freighters although most have already launched. Board and commandeer any remaining ships and pursue those which have left the premises.
There has been a prison break and Separatist invasion on Kessel. Both are being led by CIS General Zian Finnis. All contact from the Clone Garrison inside the prison has been lost, and a hazardous substance has been released around the planet. The Corp's next mission was clear.
I was put in charge of capturing one of the F9-TZ transports that the Republic uses for mining spice on the planet. The escaping prisoners had commandeered several and were getting away. Droid forces in the prison were also taking the transports. As I made my way through a hangar workshop, I discovered a whole squad of Battle Droids who had been destroyed by a mob of prisoners, in extremely irregular but effective ways. I hope that the Garrison got out of the prison before the mob found them. Luckily, there was a transport left in the hangar- these criminals must be recaptured.
Mission 13.2: Prison Defence
The proximity mines that the Sergeants are deploying should stop any regular ground forces that approach the facility, but will not stop the squadrons of Single Trooper Aerial Platforms our scouts have sighted closing in on the prison. There is little time left before their arrival, and no chance of reinforcements getting to you in time. Luckily, the facilityís armoury is equipped with several PLX-1 portable missile launchers which should be able to help you in your defence of the facility. Destroy the CIS vehicles or shoot off their riders.
We managed to stop most of the inmates from escaping from Detention Facility F, but we now had a far more difficult objective. Hordes of batte droids were on their way to retake the facility. The 316th sergeants mined the area around the prison, but waves of STAPs were making their way through to the prison.
Raptor Squad spread themselves our around the facility's perimeter- I went with Hotshot and his trusty PLX-1 portable missile launcher. The sergeants had done good job of laying the mines, but the STAPs were still getting through. Hotshot took one down within minutes with a well-aimed shot. It's a good thing that there is a Gonk droid here; it seems that we will be needing plenty of ammo.
Mission 13.3: Repel all Boarders
The droid armies closing in on Detention Facility F have caught wind of our evacuation and are closing in on the Acclamator-class assault ship near the prison that we are using to transport the prisoners off-world in. Most of the droid ground units are too slow to reach the ship in time, but air units are not. The droids are sending in waves of vulture droid starfighters and droid-loaded Droch-class Boarding ships to infiltrate and destroy the warship. We need you to hold-off the incoming forces so that our sergeants can finish transporting the prisoners and so that our commandos can complete their mission. Use the shipís guns to destroy the incoming fighters or repel the droids that have already boarded the ship.
When a Separatist Lucrehulk-Class Core Ship landed near Detention Facility F, command had us pull out as quickly as possible. There would be no stopping the hoard aboard the ship from overtaking the prison. Our sergeants were given the job of transporting all prisoners to a nearby Acclamator-class assault ship.The droids worked out what we were doing and sent waves of vulture droids and boarding ships to attack the ship. All of the 316th without a mission had to defend the ship.
I ran with one of my men down one of the ship's corridors to find it overrun by commando droids. The lead droid had a vibrosword and had somehow knocked down Kicker. As the droid lowered the sword I fired, but I was too late. Kicker was gone.
In the aftermath of the battle, as the ship retreated with 90% of the prisoners from the facility, I got the news from command. I had been promoted. I remembered all the men who I have fought with and lost since Nar Shaddaa: Tuck, Maz, Giv, Chop, Jumper, Hunter, Snatcher and now Kicker. Just like Hunter wanted to do, I plan to make a difference in this war.
