Bracket 2
Leda Kat vs Mark Erickson

Category: Fantasy Vacation:
Ok, so where have you always dreamed of going? Now, we’re not talking Disney World here, I mean something like spending a week on the bottom of the Ocean, climbing a mountain on Mars, travelling back in time to have lunch with some Velociraptors. The only limit on your fantasy getaway is your own imagination… where would you go?

Do check out my opponent's amazing entry: Mark Erickson

** My Fantasy Vacation **

Toby and I recently took a holiday. It cost a bit, but it was worth it to go where I had always dreamed of going: The *nine planets of our solar system. Enjoy our holiday snaps!

*Note: actually there are now only 8

Here we are spending a glorious day sunbathing on Mercury.

Venus is the hottest planet in the Solar System and we enjoyed relaxing in the thermal pools.

We had a stopover back on Earth on our long way to Mars, so I went to check out another fantasy of mine, Dracula's castle in Transylvania. It was very cool.

I met a lovely Martian on Mars, it was his birthday. He hadn't had one in such a long time so we celebrated with a cup of good old Martian tea.

We moon-hopper hopped around the moons of Jupiter.

We had a real blast skiing on Saturn’s rings.

We went ice-skating across the frozen oceans of Uranus.

We relaxed at the end of our long voyage by taking a fishing trip on the deep oceans of Neptune.

In 2006, Pluto was declassified as a planet… we went to find out why.

Thanks Chris and judges for your time and effort. And to whoever created this category I hope this is a little bit of what you had in mind. This is a great category to really explore the depths of your imagination. My imagination is rather deep so I asked myself "where would I go?" The Nine Planets. Without a shadow of a doubt. This fantasy goes way back into my childhood, back when Pluto was actually a planet (not a dog).

Hope you enjoy this bit of fantasy fun. Thank you for viewing my holiday pics.

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Did you take the picture of Mars outside? I'm asking because you managed to let the reflecting sphere look blue on the upper side, in order to match earth' colour
No its taken inside under lamp light. I always hold a blue plastic lid from one of my Lego containers under the light to take away the yellow hue the bulbs cast over the mocs.

What a nice idea, Leda, I love astronomy. It is cool that you added little versions of the planets in the background the further you went away from the sun. Did you take the picture of Mars outside? I'm asking because you managed to let the reflecting sphere look blue on the upper side, in order to match earth' colour (I hope you understand what I mean). Pluto is the icing on the cake.

Ugh, I'm really slack with commenting. This is at least the third time I've come to this page. Well Leda, this is an awesome build, the forced perspective in there is really nice. It's a great idea all round! It's a shame to see you go, so it's up to me and Thoy now :P :) Though up against Stormbringer, my chances aren't too massive :) Nice job Leda!

Wow! That was a serious match! I was eager to have the result but now I'm little bit disappointed: both of you deserve to win! Spectators, as I am, will miss such a great builder like you! You've done a beautiful MOC!

Quoting Thoy Bradley Well Leda, with you and Nick leaving the comp our Kiwi chances have been halved :( This is a fantastic build and it has some great concepts and techniques, I guess those gorgeous colours paid off for Mark eh. It is sad to watch another of MPs best leave but on the brighter side, at least you've already earned the MO Champion Status once before :) ~Thoy
Thanks Thoy. I admit, this one was a stretch for me in regards to the lack of time I had for it and the lack of enthusiasm too. I think I really burned myself out in the first two rounds, slow and steady wins the race as my last year's final entry tells me! Ha, but I had a blast and Mark deserved his win. Now is the time to begin my contribution to next year's super secret Brickworld virtuaLUG layout. Whoop! Good luck to both you and LWCguy. Maybe there will be another kiwi victory this year?

Quoting Sebeus I The thoughest one to judge so far, the decors are very nice and I like the whole vacation photo style, some clever Idea's too, (skiing on saturn's rings :P ) Pluto is well done too, alas I can only give my vote to one of you and it became your opponent. I can tell you that I took a lot of time to make that decision, great job!
Thanks Sebeus. I had a blast in this competition, and I think my first two rounds, Thriller and Max Rebo band are my greatest mocs I've ever made so it has been a real skill building time for me. I wish Mark and the rest of the competitors good luck for the future rounds and can't wait to see the amazing mocs that will undoubtedly be produced by some of mocpages finest.

Quoting Paul Vermeesch This could honestly be the toughest matchup I've judged this round. Leda, the variety you presented with your planets was really enjoyable, and you've proven that your unique style extends to landscapes as well. Unfortunately, my vote goes to Mark. The quality of his detail and compositional techniques just added to his "wow" factor. This was an interesting round because you were both able to build within your comfort zones to some extent, but in the end, Mark's MOC was just a bit more solid in my perspective. It looks like Sebeus will have the final say here, but you sure went for the stars this round!
Thanks Paul. I really appreciate your in depth comments. I wish Mark all the best for Sebeus ' vote, he has a truly outstanding talent and I couldn't think of a better moc to lose to.

All, thank you for so many great comments on this moc! I am pleased you all see the humour and fun I have tried to put across. It is always a risky and tricky thing to get across. I am also glad you all like Pluto so much. I was hoping he would be recognisable enough to you all to simply leave it so unexplained as I have, but he obviously worked! Cheers guys, thanks for giving me a much needed boost of confidence.

Awesome, Leda. Love the idea here. The whole thing kept me smiling. I like how you edited each pic to look like a Polaroid. The backgrounds are excellent, especially Mercury's. I know I'm not unique here, but my favorite part was your reason for Pluto having it's status as a planet revoked. And the Pluto build is superb. So well done and good luck.

Quoting Paul Romano Terrific entry! While your creation may not be as "complex" as Mark's, I think yours has a whimsical charm about it that fits the category better. It's gonna be a tight race, that's for sure!

Fun, Leda! Made me flash back to an old Animaniacs' song..."It's a great big universe and we're all really puny, we're just tiny little specs about the size of Mickey Rooney." Great job on Pluto, by the way, LOL!

#*@%! Crappy website didn't upload the very complimentary comment I wrote for this. Love the builds -- Pluto is awesome, but I also loved the side trip to Drac's place (Just got the Crazy Scientist set yesterday - yay!) and the overall organization and series of builds shows why you're a champion! Although I don't like to LEARN through a hobby I enjoy, I'll overlook it this time. Great job, mate!

Quoting David Roberts Very creative and lots of fun. My favourite scene is you having tea on Mars. I like the logic, that with all of the current efforts to find life on Mars, the Martians must be hiding underground.
Thank you, yes that was exactly my logic. They are all living in the deep caves and chasms that are as yet unexplored.

Personally I think you nailed it with your ultimate getaway vacation. Each scene is a work of art in its own unique way. The first two are obviously my person favorites because of your tantalizing outfits (yes, yes I know but what do you expect from a lugnut like me who's hopelessly smitten by every thing you do)! This is fantastic Leda! Its funny, I only just read the Wiki on the Solar System a few days ago, so many of these facts are still fresh in my mind. While I love the scenic look of Mark's build, one cannot bypass the extremes your vacation took you. Techniques wise both builds are pretty even, your FP works quite well in all the shots. I wouldn't count anyone out of the running yet as I think this will really come down to personal taste. Good Luck! ~Thoy
