I created this truck using the LEGO 7347 as a starting point. I wanted a wrecker that could haul my 1:17 scale Ferrari's. The final MOC is much larger than the LEGO 7347 truck, but it is still an easy build like other Creator sets. It's got a lot of features for playing.
About this creation
I started with a LEGO Creator 7347 set and just made it bigger and used larger wheels/tires. The truck may look like the LEGO Creator 7347, but it's really about 90% larger. I wanted a flatbed truck to be able to tow my 1:17 scale LEGO Ferrari's. I wish LEGO had a better selection of slope with curves so we could create more realistic, modern hoods. Working with what's available makes the truck look old fashioned.
You see these flatbed wreckers every day all over the United States. They mostly have single rear axles with dual wheels/tires on each side so that's what I did.
This was not a hard build. It was made using common LEGO pieces and I tried not to make it too complicated. Its meant to be played with, not displayed. So it's very tough and easy to operate. It has turning wheels with steering through the roof. The emergency lights work too. I used the exact direction from the 7347 set to make the emergency light bar. The hood opens and closes. Both doors open and close. The flatbed extends and retracts using a mechanical winch just like the 7347 set.
The doors open to show off the complete interior.
Here's the bed starting to extend to pick-up a load.
The flatbed is now fully extended and ready to take a load.
What do we have here? It appears a LEGO Ferrari F430 (8671) has engine trouble! Someone please call a tow truck.
The Ferrari is loaded and ready to be towed back to the repair shop.
Thanks for the tow!
