About this creation
Category. "Fantasy Vacation: Ok, so where have you always dreamed of going? Now, we’re not talking Disney World here, I mean something like spending a week on the bottom of the Ocean, climbing a mountain on Mars, travelling back in time to have lunch with some Velociraptors. The only limit on your fantasy getaway is your own imagination… where would you go?"
My worthy opponent's page.
A link to the 2012 MocOlympics.

A front view of the hunting lodge, nicely showing the cascading roofs.

Here we have an excellent view of the side of the building, and two noble ladies; one has a falcon for hawking.

Another side view. Several hunters are enjoying the bonfire. Their hounds scamper about, eager for the next hunt.

A view of the bridge, and the river cutting through the chasm. I decided to go with a more traditional water technique, rather than my usual, which is rather unusual and somewhat controversial. ;)

The infamous Blake the Barbaerian in disguise, and Yursuff the used camel dealer. ;)

An overview of the right side.

A shot from Mark of Falworth's view as he arrives for his relaxing vacation.

An overhead picture of the whole Moc.

A view of the left side. Note the mushrooms. ;) Can you spot the white owl? :)

Another picture showing many of the various details.

A view of the interior of the lodge. Tables loaded with foodstuffs and wine wait for the hungry hunters' return...
The upper story is a private bedchamber for nobility - in this case, awaiting Mark of Falworth. A richly woven tapestry imported from the lands of Loreos hangs on the wall (the host hopes Mark will take note of this thoughtful touch) ;)

...An elk head reposes above the doorway - a trophy of a successful chase in times past. Sorry that this picture is rather blurry. :)

A lone Areani stalks in the woods, perhaps he’s seeking the Barbearian?
____________________________________
Fourth wall commentary,
When I heard I was paired against Leda, I was excited and scared at the same time. :) I knew I had to build something historical, it's my forte, and if I could vacation anywhere... that's where I'd go. :)
At first I started to build a castle. I got the base done, no sweat, but when I got to the actual castle... to be honest, it was an uphill battle the whole way. I was constantly thwarted by lack of the right bricks, I rebuilt the castle (and later, tower) about six times, and the "Fantasy Vacation" seemed a far cry from what I was building. So, I took a break and was sitting in the living room, in a rather gloomy state, when my brother and sister came to me and said they had an idea. They suggested that I needed to build something besides the tower. As you can imagine I was rather upset at the idea. ;) They told me that I should build a... "medieval hunting lodge". At first I was like - "What!? No way!!" - But later I realized that it actually was a really great idea. And I soon became very excited about it.
So, with that extra motivation, I gave it a try... And I built the whole building all in one day. There's nothing like inspiration! :D
I think the finished creation definitely fits the category better than what I had previously planned, as it's now a true Fantasy Vacation Destination. :)
I'd also like to say that it has been an honor to compete against you, Leda, and best of luck with the judges! I look forward to seeing your build. :)
~Mark

The leaves really give at a nice touch, although too bad they're custom... Being a purist and all really makes me think the new darkred leaves from the hobbit sets would make an awesome addition to your tree building skills. And the building is amazing! Lots to see and nice detailing, like the crossbeam holding it up! I am definately going to 'borrow' that ;)Great job and good luck down the road! greetings, Elderon |

Mark, firstly I hope that you have some nails left and haven't chewed them all the way up to your elbows! And secondly I have to say mate that you have been pronounced Officially Awesome. I am happy to lose to such a great artist such as yourself and I couldn't think of a better build to go out against than this. Those trees just blow me away and the general composition and delicate techniques and details that are throughout show that you are the next up and coming big thing to hit this site. I hope to see you all the way to the final. Don't disappoint me!
Wow... I can still hardly believe it!
No, my nails are fine, it the intermittent body tremors that I've experienced the last few days that were worrying me. ;D Thanks, I put a lot of effort into the build, as I'm sure you did with yours.

This could honestly be the toughest matchup I've judged this round. While Leda's variety and presentation style that she gave us was really enjoyable, my vote goes to you. The quality of your detail and compositional techniques just added to the "wow" factor here. The touch with the interior just put it over the top for me. This was an interesting round because you were both able to build within your comfort zones to some extent, but in the end, your MOC was just a bit more solid in my perspective. It looks like Sebeus will have the final say here, I think you've totally got what it takes to make it to round 4.
Wow, thank you so much, Paul. I had a feeling that Leda and I would put on a good show! :D I'm glad you liked the interior... I almost didn't do much on the interior, but my wonderful siblings encouraged me to work much harder on that part than I usually do.
Thanks again - awaiting Sebeus' vote now...

This is simply stunning Mark. A true masterpiece in every sense of the word. Wonderful details throughout, even an interior for the lodge! I was reading the comments just now and I honestly didn't realise you were only a TFOL! By your skill level I had assumed you were an old master of the brick hiding in your underground den like us mad AFOLs do, despising the light and human company... Gorgeous colours and texture and wonderful design on the lodge. I don't even need to wish you luck here, because honey, you've got it in the bag.
Thanks Leda! :D
Yep, I'm still a teen for a few more years, but I already have a few AFOL traits that you've mentioned. ;)

Mark, the amount of awe I'm in is beyond words. In the last round you stepped up your game to build one of your greatest MOCs outside of your comfort zone, and in this round you've returned to your comfort zone to show us all what you are truly capable of. Despite my aversion to non-LEGO accessories, I admit that the leaves work very well here, especially with your superb tree building skills. The landscaping on the whole is amazing (no surprise there), but the lodge stands out as well. The architecture is flawless and eye-catching, and I really like the beams that support it behind the rocky foundation. The amount of detail and thought that went into this is quite evidently very much, which makes the fact that it was constructed in so short a time-frame all the more inspiring. Truly you've cemented your status as the best speed builder around, and as one of the top TFOLs on the internet. Masterful MOC, if anything will take Leda down it's this.
Wow! Thanks Luke! :D That means a lot!

Instantly recognizable and I love the medieval twist here. I also really like how you did the architecture to the lodge, and that fact that its incorporated into a rock is just awesome. The autumn colored leaves were also a great choice as we are getting into fall and the leaves are changing. Maybe you could start doing seasonal LCCs too? It didn't post my comment earlier :( Mark, this is incredible! Though I'd have to disagree with Lukes 'Best Speed Builder' comment, I've personally witnessed someone do a build 3 times the size, same quality, in half the time - and I wouldn't even consider them to be the 'Best Speed Builder'. None of this detracts from the marvelous creation you have presented and I have to agree with most of the things people have said. As Blake said - I really need to get my hands on some of those leaves! This is a fantastic build and it has a good chance at forcing Leda's hand, one only has to see her R7 entry from last year to know that She is very capable of producing gold. ~Thoy |

By your skill level I had assumed you were an old master of the brick hiding in your underground den like us mad AFOLs do, despising the light and human company... Gorgeous colours and texture and wonderful design on the lodge. I don't even need to wish you luck here, because honey, you've got it in the bag. |

Wow! Very, very nice! I love the different colored trees! Where did you get the different color leaves from? Oh and yes, I spotted the white owl. haha. Very nicely done.

woah! Leda has her work cut out for her here! wow, what a build! the rockwork and foliage, is, as always, excellent, and I love that building! my only dislike would be the impurist tree leaves, and the somewhat 'normal' water... |

I would have paid a lot of money to get my hands on some of those leaves when Rivendell was up. Boy, your scene is gorgeous though. Awesome, awesome, awesome job Mark, and best of luck with the judges as you face one of MOCpages best. |
