The fantastical world of Odan is my Kickstarter project. You can decide how to evolve this kingdom by visiting:
About this creation
This project is 1/2 done. I've started a Kickstarter to help finish it. You can see a video I've created that shows this in great detail. This is built in micro scale and hopefully will be 5' - 6' tall. Small prints can be purchased for $13.
I've a ton of rewards, from small fine art prints, to larger ones and all sorts of objects from the finished model. By funding at certain levels you will be telling me what to add to this creation. Some things you can get are: a houses, trees, mills, parts of the castle (city), farms, temples, watchtowers, large towers, large areas of the city, disciple's retreats, beast master tower, the central bridge, a cathedral and more. Sorry about the title in Kickstarter "The Odan Project: A Fantastical and Massive LEGO Masterwork". I don't mean to imply a master builder's piece or overstate. It was just to build excitement for non afols. Also, if you have any other ideas of things to add.
Here is the basic feel for the story.
The World of Odan
Depending on the success of first installment to the project, I will continue further with more models, which will expand on this universe. In this fantastical world, pure evil has taken hold of many nations. Here, there are a number of races including a few humaniods which have traditionally coexisted peacefully. Spirituality has evolved as fast as science. As a consequence, kingdoms in the light practice spiritual healing, animal communication and can travel parts of the universe with their spirit. The evil that has taken hold of many kingdoms, offers new powers in exchange for the light. These lands have grown dark and chaotic. Over 70 kingdoms extend into many climates and spectacular environments. These will be captured in future models.
The Seers of Odan
With the high level of spirituality, has evolved two disciplines within those practices. The first is organized religion, much as we know it. This remains primarily community based and is run by a hierarchical religious order.
The second component is run by an order known as the Seers. Their power comes from the spirits, both from Odan and from within each individual. Certain larger mammals and trees infuse the world with energy which can be tapped in by all individuals for healing, spirit traveling and other special powers. This branch of spirituality is more individual than community in nature and complements the religious order. Special crystals help to capture and focus powers which the seers carefully guard. They also train the population in these arts, administer healing and communicate with the great beasts that guard their kingdoms. So it is that the Seers' role can be divided by these distinct areas those that heal, those that educate and those that protect.
Oh my goodness. I have come to expect greatness from you, but this is in a class all its own. The details are simply stunning. I love the rock work that you have throughout. Among the best I've seen. The castle is gorgeous. A lot of techniques either I've never seen before, or am not recognizing because they've been done in a new way. I also really like how the city leads down the hill like that. Great use of the technic pieces for windows. In conclusion...Wow.
Quoting Deus Otiosus
Half finished? I can not wait. There is one thing though - I am very afraid about you using lime green as grass, it has not worked well yet... If anybody can do it, you will.
Yes, I agree on the lime green. I had more of it and have started to purge. The bottom area there, I've sort of been ignoring for a while. I was thinking eventually to put farms down there. Thanks for the complement and comment!
What a fun concept! Stellar work in the creation, as well. Love the vertical arrangement of the castle structure and the town/village element. Those micro houses give incredible sense of scale to the castle portion. And, as is so often the case with your work, wonderful textural variety that works beautifully to seperate and highlight the forms!
Absolutely magnificent structure! At first I didn't notice that it was in micro scale, but once I saw that the level of detailing took on a whole new dimension. That is some compelling brick work. It reminds me of some of the fantasy artwork that was very popular in the 1980s.
