About this creation
For over a year now, I've had the idea to fill my school's dispay case with scenes from story books kids know - from classic fairy tales to modern stories, all brought together under a unifying theme.
As I moved closer to beginning this project, my wife got me started watching ABC's "Once Upon a Time." It's a television drama that takes fairy tale characters and puts them in the modern world. They forget their true orgins and believe they belong on Earth - until Snow White's child arrives, not knowing she is destined to save them.
Taking inspiration from the show, I decided that all my story book characters would be invading the real world. I am working out the details of the story, but at the moment, it involves Merlin and King Arthur working to undo the effects of magic in the real world, but they need the help of the viewers (in my case, children looking at the diplay) to identify all the characters from the stories, so they can send them back to their world.
My first scene to be completed was Hansel and Gretel's Gingerbread House.
The lollipops are so realistic, I had to fish them out of my 18 month old daughter's mouth a few times. Even my 4 year old son kept trying to put them in his mouth.
As a bonus, you get a sneak peek at Jack's Beanstalk.
What could be up there?
A giant shoe, of course! The sock reminds me of something Spongebob might wear - I hope to make some kind of pant leg to cover most of it, at some point.
I have two displays ready, with many more to come. The final project is due to be finished in January. Hopefully I can get my brother involved, and make it a collaborative project.

I don't have definite plans for these next two, but I may include a reference to Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.
I am open to suggestions - I have ideas and a drawing, but I'd be happy to hear some more great stories.

Mmm, those lollipops do look delectable! The kiddies are in for a real treat with this project (no ten inpunded), especially with a talented builder like yourself bringing it to fruition. The list of future subjects has me eager to see the finished layout!~H |

Fantastic work! I especially like the tree and lollipops, and the sneak peek is awesome too. This is a brilliant idea for a series, and I'm sure the kids will love it. Can't wait to see more updates! |
