My second go at the Tumbler as seen in the movies "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight".
About this creation
I’ve been on MOCpages now for 3 years and I thought a good way to celebrate my MOCiversary is to have another go at one of my first MOCs, which also happens to be my favourite movie vehicle; The Tumbler.
I posted my original way back in October 2009 and since then I have learnt and developed many different building techniques.
It’s also been a while since I’ve built anything because of general life getting in the way so I saw this as a good opportunity to get back into the building seat.
This version of the Tumbler still retains some of my original features but redesigned to perform more effectively.
The steering is still the same principle but has a lot more strength than the previous one and actually works a lot better. The rack and pinion is mounted quite low in the chassis.
It still has rear suspension but the springs are hidden inside the vehicle body. The springs are the yellow stiffer type to cope with the weight of the body as the grey ones just don’t have enough strength.
Unfortunately I had to lose the concealed stinger missiles as there just isn’t the room but I don’t think the movie version actually had them anyway.
The roof mechanism is still the same.

You can view an animation of all the working features on YouTube by clicking here.

I hope you enjoy looking at this and feel free to rate and comment.

The jet engine is used to control the steering by rotating either left or right.
The rear axle is in two pieces. This allows the Tumbler to steer better and also allows the suspension to work without the rear axle fouling the steering control rod.

I love using Lego glass doors in my builds. This Tumbler uses three. Two for the side windows and one for the windscreen. They help keep the side walls thin and allow the windscreen to be set at any angle.

A nice shot to show off the steering.

Thanks for looking.

this is WAAAAY better than the official set, of course! The front steering I still can't figure out, but it looks really true to the movie version.

I somehow missed this due to vacation. Happy MOCiversary! Amazing tumbler, I like the steering of course. And I like the way you did the sides, it's much better than mine. Same for the way the hatch opens.

Even as I'm a little late, I still want to wish you a happy MOCiversary! :-)) And your new tumbler is a great way to celebrate it! The shaping is great and steering plus suspension are two functions very rarely found together on a LEGO tumbler. Great job! :-))

The Tumbler really has captured Moccer's imaginations and sets the bar high if it's to be done right. This is great, loving the steering and roof mechanisms.
