On September 12, 1940, four teenagers, Jacques Marsal, Marcel Ravidat, Georges Agnel, and Simon Coencas, and Marcel's dog, Robot were hunting for a mythical treasure, supposedly hidden inside a hole located in the French town of Dordogne. Instead of finding treasure, however, they discovered a complex labyrinth of caves. On the walls of these caves were paintings of various animals. Today, the Cave Paintings of Lascaux are known worldwide as some of the oldest pieces of art.
This MOC displays the four boys, Robot, and the most famous of the Lascaux paintings: the bull.
Here, Marcel is pulled into the cave by his dog.
His friends hear him shouting, and hurry to the scene.
Robot, the leader of the group, curiously sniffs his way into the hole to find...
... the bull. This was an immensely fun build. The ratios were a little tricky, but they were necessary to make the image as accurate as possible.
The cave entrance.
The tree roots.
A bird in it's nest.
The whole cave.
The four boys and Robot admiring the beauty of the ancient paintings.
Unfortunately, when Phipson saw the paint on the cave walls, his police-officer instincts kicked in. He whipped out this anti-vandalism spray-paint and... well... see for yourself.
I am very sorry to announce that due to other factors and school I am not able to build an entire entry before tomorrow evening. Do not get me wrong because I will enter something, but it will only be a WIP of that what it could have been. So before going nuts tomorrow on building, please consider this. I'm truly sorry.
Stunning! I love the foliage, the figs, and most of all the ratios and cave paintings. I could see Phipson vandalizing the cave paintings...was he trying to write "Mi Awrsum cavv payuntinggs" over the top? Just curious ;) Good luck!
Wow, this is an incredible piece of art (no pun intended)! :) I'll admit it outright, that this build is much better than mine, you did an awesome job with the landscaping and the cave, and trees are also sweet - I'm going to be copying these techniques in the future! ;) Good luck with the judges, but you already got one vote and I'm sure you'll get the rest with this awesome build!
So Phipson… you keep the cans of spray paint in the police car eh? A little vandalism now and then after hours? That figures… Great entry here, Max. Flare put up a fight, but strictly based on the build quality, my vote goes to you. Good luck with the rest of the judges! With this kind of work, you could make it to the top!
