About this creation
Welcome to my entry for the second round of the MocOlympics. My opponent, the master of Bionicle and skilled system builder, Legofreak2444, has already posted his rendition of Abbey Road. The category we were tasked with was
"Famous album covers – (cd covers for you youngins) Build your own version of an album cover (mosaic or 3D, your choice). Please include a picture of or at least a link to the original artwork so we can compare them."
I decided to build Abbey Road as well, since the Beatles are one of the few non-orchestral bands which I like.

Building at miniland scale proved a unique challenge, add to that the forced perspective and this was definitely out of my comfort zone.

After taking a few photos I left to replace the camera's batteries, and when I returned I had some repairs to do thanks to the backdrop falling. At last I can sympathize with everyone who mails their creations to conventions. Also, perhaps this is another clue that Paul McCartey's really dead. He sure looks that way in this photo...

Here's the set-up after I fixed everything up.

The CD cover I used as a reference while building.

George Harrison. Due to my limited blue collection he's not overly complex, but his moustache is a highlight.

Paul McCartney, my favourite of the batch. I had to use some nifty techniques to keep the cigarette in his hand, I'm guessing that he's the only miniland figure ever built with a screwdriver for a wrist...

Ringo Starr

John Lennon. These guys are all inspired by Ochre Jelly's awesome miniland figures, and his creations are probably why I chose to build at this scale.

All said it's not nearly perfect; thanks to lack of pieces, bizarre angles, and the limitations of the LEGO medium in general many aspects are somewhat off, but overall I feel it's not too bad. Best of luck to Legofreak, and thanks for stopping by!

Beautifully created Luke. Brings back the memories of Mum's record collection of the Beetles and the stories she told me about the concert she went to so long ago. Well done |

I could have been a little disappointed that both of you pick the same cover but heck! It's the Beatles! Yours is definitely more accurate, congrats and see you in R3! |

The forced perspective is good, but it looks a little crooked off in the distance. Excellent work on the figures, congratulations on making it to round three! Good luck!
Yeah, the background could've done with a couple of extra hours and few hundred pieces more. Thanks! |

Of all the gazillions of albumcovers out there you both choose Abbey Road, now that is one bizarre coincidence! I wonder what the judges will make of this comparison; I slightly favor yours over Legofreaks version. The parked cars are more "car shaped" and the smoke in Paul's hand is outstanding! The forced perspective is a popular feature in this round, but well executed nonetheless. Good luck, Luke!
Thanks, I guess Abbey Road is just the most famous of them all. Indeed, FP is really becoming commonplace. |

Not too bad??!! Luke, this is fantastic. This is one of those world-wide, iconic images that knows neither time nor nationality. So, the real measure of the success of this MOC is recognizability, and this MOC is instantly recognizable. The figures look great. I know the cover very well, so I was able to identify the players pretty quickly, but even so, you were able to capture the essence of each of the Beatles. Great work giving John the appearance of having his hand in his pocket. Great attention to detail on Paul with the bare feet and being out of step. This is some of the best effects by forced perspective I've seen. This is definitely going to be a tough one to beat. Great work and good luck.
Thanks Tim, always great to get a comment from you.
