Deep in the heart of the city sits a castle that is centuries old. Now a popular attraction to tourists, it's bustling with life and activity. Will you take a guided tour of the castle? Stop and get a bite to eat at the Café? Take a walk through the park? Go down to the pier and watch it's beauty? There are so many options to choose from, but it's up to you to decide! *Edit* Congratulations on advancing, Mark!
About this creation
Category, City Block: Build a city block complete with storefronts and all the goings on of a regular, every day city.
My incredible opponent's entry.

A Café sits on the corner of the street.

...

Fancy decal, eh? ;)

An elderly woman sits and drinks her tea.

The second story of the Café also includes interior.

High above the rest of the city, two actors do a medieval skit on the castle's balcony.

Who's that extremely handsome chap? Oh, it's just my sig-fig taking a walk through the park. :P

Another shot of the park.

A "paperboy" is trying to sell his merchandise to the elderly woman, I don't think she's interested.

A shot with the lighting. I bet you didn't see that coming!

Another night-time shot.
Fourth Wall:
First off, just like Mark, I almost always build in the Castle Realm. So having to build a city block was definitely a challenge! Anyway...
This build measures in at 40 Studs high making this my tallest creation to date. It also includes working lighting which was a pain to build around. I've started completely over three times, so for a second I thought I wasn't going to be able to post anything. Luckily, all is well now. I was extremely excited when I heard I was going to Round 2, and to make it all the better, I got paired against my good friend Mark Erickson! :D
Hopefully this'll get me into the Third Round as my opponent put up quite a fight with his entry: Downtown Venice FL. Once again, best of luck to you Mark! God Bless, Justin.

First off I'd like to say how nice it's been to be paired with you, Justin. You're an awesome guy! Chivalrous, even to your opponents. :D
Next I'd like to say how much I like this gorgeous build! The decal immediately stood out to me, brilliant idea! I think we had similar ideas with the red awnings. ;) And you even managed to include a castle and a conquistador! Sweet! :D
Lastly I'd also like to wish you the best of luck! :D
Have an awesome day, Justin!
Thanks Mark! It's also been great to be paired against you! I knew you'd like the conquistador;) Congratulations on the well deserved win, too! :D |

Quoting Sebeus I
You obviously worked hard on this creation, I like the 'stairs down to the river' part, it would have been cool if you added a small boat there.
Great integration of techniques as well. I must say, it's a pain to vote against you but I must remain objective, my vote goes to your opponent Mark Erickson.
Know this; you made a stand ;)
Of course you had to have a boat somewhere in there Sebeus. ;D |

Wow! Incredible entries here! Justin, the blending of past in present in your build was delightful; a theme I've rarely seen in city builds like these. From a compositional standpoint, the castle facade nearly doubled the perceived size of your build and made it a pleasure to explore. Your largely studless technique was wonderful as well. Both builds square with the category given wonderfully, but my vote here unfortunately goes to Mark. His build not only contrasted city with nature, rock with sand, and lovely architectural styles, he utilized some impressive parts-repeating techniques and great sunshiny colors. Good luck with the rest of the judges. You really put up a fight! |

If I were a judge, I'd be stuck. Both you and Mark produced builds of the highest caliber. I can't place one above the other. In reference to your build alone, I like the lighting! And, of course, I'm always a fan of studless builds. Very well done Justin! |

This is truly lovely. I think the cafe is adorable and the scene as a whole is just such a beautiful composition. Wonderful, subtle use of colours and textures. I want to shrink down to minifig scale and have a cup of tea there. I didn't see that lighting coming at all! Gorgeous. Well done and good luck. |
