2012 MO Round 2 : Tom Remy Vs Cédric Picher MAYAPOCALYPSE !
My entry for the 2012 MocOlympics Round 2
About this creation
The link to the 2012 MocOlympics
And to my opponent’s homepage : Cédric Picher

"It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine : some (crazy) people say that in the year 2012, the world will end as we know it. Create a disastrous scene showing what might happen when the world ends !!!"

At first, I thought of doing something original, but I realized that a) my ideas were maybe a little too much "out of the box", and b) what’s better for this category than a good ol’ blockbuster, like "2012" or "The Day After Tomorrow" ?

So without further explanation, coming soon in your theater and introducing Siggy, Moc Olympics Production and Tom are proud to present you :

MAYAPOCALYPSE

A long time ago, in the thick jungles of what would become Guatemala, stood the secret pyramid of Meskal.

The Mayans kept a secret there…

Guarded by a priest, the mayan calendar turned slowly, counting the days…

… Until one peculiar day !

Centuries passed, civilizations rose and fell…

Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea…

"Signore e signori, this is captain Cretino speaking. On the port side, you can catch sight of the french shores. We’ll get as close as we can so you’d enjoy the view. Thanks for cruising with Casto Cruises."

"Darling, the ice-cream seller is here !"

Woman in the water : "Darling, did you hear me ?"
Angry husband on the stairs : "Yes honey, I’m coming…"

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21st, 2012

4 PM

An ordinary day, except for the unusually high temperature on a winter day…
Play-boy : "Hi, beauty !"

Everyone is enjoying a pleasant afternoon.

Siggy and his girlfriend are celebrating their anniversary with champagne. (That's the real date, actually !)

Man in leather jacket : "Those postcards ! Let’s see : sister Suzie, brother John, Martin Luther, Phil and Don, brother Michael, auntie Gin…"

Teacher : "Have a nice Holiday and merry Christmas, kids !"
Pupils : "Yeaaaah !!!!"

Pinball-addict punk : "I’m gonna break my record today !"
Phipson : "Me too !"

Musician : "Somewhere beyond the sea…"

Surf shopkeeper : " ’Need anything else ?"
Freshly fully equipped diver : "Hho, Hhanks a Hlot !"

… And some sleep overnight.

Upsetting wife : "Darling, my ice-cream !"
Angry husband : "Yes honey, I’m just looking for an ATM !"

"OK, let’s empty the bank account…"

Meanwhile, inside the bank…

Robber : "Gimme the cash, man !"
Banker : "M-m-maybe you should take a run, I already pushed the alarm button…"
"Not without the money !"

"And now, let’s get away…"

** Siren wailing **
** Brakes screaking **

Angry husband who still has not been able to get cash : "What’s that noise, over here?"

Cops : "Freeze !"
Robber : "OK, now would be a good time to find me a hostage"
Angry husband who suddenly lost interest in buying ice-cream : "Gulp !"

WHEN SUDDENLY…

Play-boy : "LOOK !!!"

"Mmh ? Hey, what the…"

Woman : "B-but… That’s a TSUNAMI !!"
Musician : "Nearer, My God, to Thee…"

** General panic **

** Insert Benny Hill theme **
Husband : "Run !"
Robber : "Run !!"
Policemen : "Ruuun !!!"

Photographer : "It's the scoop of a lifetime !"

Surfer girl : "Yippeee !!!!"

"Everybody's gone surfin'..."

* * * * *

2 HOURS LATER

Fireman : "Push !"
Robber : " ‘Must have been one of those days…"

Police officer : "You have the right to remain silent, but you’ll be charged for drowning our patrol car…"

Husband (still angry) : "… And you know what ? I didn’t even get you your ice-cream !"
Wife : "Don’t worry darling, next holiday, we go to the mountain…"

"Meow… Saved by music !"

Bartender : "How you doing down there ?"
Phipson : "Fine, the water is just OK !"

"To our three years !"

Man on the roof : "There’s no way I write them all again !"

Teacher : "Oh no ! My school !"
Pupil : "Oh yes ! My school !"

Surfer girl : "Why is everyone so nervous ?"

** Yawn **
"What just happened ?"

"Seems it’s the end of the world as we know it... and I feel fine !"

THE END

Bonus DVD : The whole build, détails, unused pics.

Who said cats are afraid of water ? Well, maybe not of Lego water…

Commentary : this is my first City MOC since my dark ages and it’s been challenging ! I also really enjoyed including microscale and perspective tricks, I hope it works…
And I REEEEALLY think my next build will be less… gigantic (Whether I go further in the MO or not, BTW).

Thanks for viewing and good luck to everyone, long live MocPages !

Well, this is simply amazing. So many little details, great, humorous storyline that I miss in so many MOCs- a trully great build indeed. And yeah, the Azure coast, wish it was summer again... It's been many, many years since I last visited the French Riviera (always just hurrying along A8), so it was great to spend a few days there this summer. Even though your dark age was quite long, you haven't lost your touch... Keep up the good work!

Quoting Chris Phipson Tom, it's never fun to win by default but let me be the first to say that I think you're one of the forces to watch out for in these games. Just an amazing amount of work and detail! You keep this up and yeah... people should be worried. Good luck in round three and thank you for a truly AMAZING entry! ~ Chris.
Quoting Sebeus I This is a fantastic entry, since your opponent didn't post his entry it's obvious you go on to round three. I think this is one of my favorites of round two, great job!
Quoting Paul Vermeesch Epic presentation! Congrats on the default win and I hope to see quality of this sort in round 3! Great work!
Thank you very very much judges! I've been away from the internet for a while, but couldn't wait for your comments... These are so kind! You're right Chris, it's not fun to win by default, but I think my new opponent is already building, and so am I! I'll try not to disappoint you, but I'm having troubles with my new category... Anyway, thanks again for the time you spend in organization, judging, moderating... I don't know how you manage to do it! --Tom--

Quoting Leda Kat =^..^= This is legend! All that wonderful, glorious detail. You have inspired me to start using my minifigures again.
Thanks a lot! If you're as good with minifigs than you are at a larger scale, we're gonna see some amazing MOCs!

Quoting Stuart Delahay Wow! So much to see here, so much done in a short time and done really well too. I could spend a day picking out cool details, but i'm absolutely loving the Mayan priest's headress, the calender, the microscale liner and the wave. Well done and good luck!
Thank you! Mayan parts of the build are also my favorite. It took a ridiculous amount of time to do that headress right, and purist!

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Incredible! You're really shaping up into a force to be reckoned with, this entry's astounding. Every scene is chock full of awesome details, and the sheer size is impressive. I admire that you took the time to rebuild many aspects of the city for the flood scenes, that must have been quite time-consuming. Masterful work, and best of luck!
Thank you so much! And yeah, rebuilding (or rather destroying) the whole thing was tough, I only had one night to do it...

Quoting StoveTop Creator Crazy and creative! My favorite is the interlocking calender wheels. I don't know if you build them intentionally that way... but... that large cog-wheel has twenty spokes and the Mayans' mathematical system was a Vigesimal or Base Twenty system!! Very Cool! Very Very Best of Luck to You! :)
Thank you very much! And yes, the twenty spokes are on purpose, thanks to Wikipedia!

Quoting A M Amazing! To think you churned this out in such a short time, and for the first time building city in awhile as well... brilliant. I really like the story; how it draws you in and sets the scene so well. It felt just like a movie! And the build itself is fantastic. That wave is cleverly done; it's hard to achieve detail and realism with such a large scale (i.e. a tsunami) but you pulled it off. Spectacular work!
Thank you! I'm really happy that the movie aspect worked on you, thanks for the feedback!

Quoting MCLegoboy ! Holy Bajolies! That's quite the story. And it is all so amazing. I'm usually not a fan of big builds, but this is very enjoyable. It's amazing that everyone was still around after such a tsunami. Your minifigs must be olympic medalists in swimming or something. :)
No, they're made of plastic! ;) Seriously (!), I wanted to keep a "fun aspect" to the whole story, so I arbitrary decided that no minifig would die in this MOC... TX for the comment!

Quoting Giovanni & Lennaert Seynhaeve Oh-my-god, Tom. That is very impressive, you build like a maniac. I spot great presentation, a good story, loads of details, interiors and most of all alot of building skills. A truely AMAZING entry, good luck with your judges. PS: my heart jumped up when I saw that classic yellow motorcycle, thanks man!
Thanks for the killer comment! And I love those old motorcycles as well... GL in R3, especially if your superheroes collection looks like mine (I mean : no superheroes!)
