The Forbidden Pool
This is my entry against Matthew Oh, in a MOC off. It is a little late, but he was kind enough to give me some grace. The category was Castle/Medieval so I did a Lord of the Rings MOC. This is the forbidden pool from the Two Towers.
About this creation
Here is a Link To his entry.

I was quite pleased with my Faramir.

And I love my Ithilien Rangers.

I love the water design, but it is either the same or very similar to one that Blake Bear used and I think that is what is was based off of, but I really do not know for sure.

"The rock and pool, is nice and cool, so juicy sweet! Our only wish, to catch a fish so juicy sweeeeeet!"

This MOC is the first Rock-work that I have done on my own, and I quite like it.

Thanks for looking!

Nice job! The water color is good, but i think its a little square on the back corners, and the rockwork is a little blocky, but on the other hand i love the ithillien rangers and faramir is awesome. The trees and foliage are really good too. All in all a very good moc.

On topic: 1/1, new score = 17.5

Creativity: 9.5/10 I LOVE that waterfall and tree design. Bricks/Building Techniques: 3.5/5 I have to agree with Raviel, there are some BURP's you need to fix, but that's all! Brick Colors, visual elements, photography skills. A solid 3.5/5. I know that's a lot of points, but it's my opinion. And you total score is.....16.5! Great work, I'm giving you a thumbs up, Mark. You did a great job, and you worked really hard to deserve a score like this. Good Luck!

Creativity: 8/10; This is one of the more creative MOCs I've seen in the castle genre. I love how both entry were different; I'd thought I'd see a tower coming, but whatever. Bricks/Building and Techniques: 3/5; I thought the water looked good, but the rock texture was done the wrong way. I understand that this was your first time doing rockwork, but it looked too blocky. The trees are okay; but I have no CC to improve it, sorry. The landscaping could be better too, like Halhi said. Visual elements, brick colors, and photography skills: 2.5/4; I personally thought the photography was bad, I saw that green base plate all over the MOC. Maybe you should've added more gray plates to the empty space on the MOC, or just not photograph it. And yes; a white background is needed BUT it didn't distract the scene itself. The colors looked right for this scene, so good job with that. On topic: 1/1. Total: 14.5

Quoting Halhi 141 Creativity: 9/10 - I like that you took it outside of the generic castle scene. I think that giving it an original story would have been a plus though. Bricks/Building Techniques: 2/5 - Excellent water, but the rockwork could use some work. Try looking at how builders like Blake Baer do it. Make sure that you don't use any specialized rock pieces on it, and be sure to avoid showing studs. I think that the rest of the landscaping could be better too. Visual elements, brick colors, photography skills: 2/4 The water is excellent, but the photos could have been better, try having an all white background. The lighting was a bit off too. The colors weren't at all bad, but the mix between dark grey and dark bley, as well as that of green and dark green, seemed a bit too random. On Topic: 1/1 Total: 14/20
I mixed the greys to make rocks look different, it doesn't make sense for all the rocks to be the same color.

Quoting Michael Kringe Very nice MOC! (even Taylor said some positive things about it!!) I love the effect of the water and the rock work. As for the minifigs I am a little bit confused though, because you said that you prefer yellow minifigs.
I do, actually. But I wanted to make my first MOC with official LOTR figures. But never believe that I like flesh more, this is only my second flesh figure MOC.

Great MOC Mark! I love the build, figs are nice too. I used the same head and hair for my Faramir, which you'll be able to see in my newest MOC, coming soon.

I think you need a little guidance in taking photographs but water looks kinda of good, since I've always liked the effect that transparent pieces make when placed over solid blue.

A great creation. The only thing I would suggest is hat you put more slanted pieces in the rocks.
