Onua Mata Revamp
A classic toa Mata, reimagined to an all black Toa Inika.
About this creation
Here's a revamp I did a while back. Build wise I wouldn't say he's anything all that spectacular, it was more of a way for me to do things I had yet to do in MOCing.

  • uild an all black MOC(with the exception for his trans Dark Green eyes)

  • build an actual MOC using the inika build that wouldn't be totally lame.(judge for yourself whether that was accomplished).

  • and lastly, a revamp.

Onua came about sort of as an "accident." When I first started building, I just wanted an all black MOC and something simple to use for videos, but as I was building I realized that with a few changes, I could have Onua. So I moved a few things around added the claws, gears on the back(that are static) and switched the mask and voilą, Onua Mata.
Because of the nature of this build. He's been a one off. I haven't nor plan to do the other toa Mata. But that's just as well. I like that he's a stand alone.

Woops, someone lost their mask. XD

Yep, that's my Onua Mata Revamp. Thanks for viewing, commenting and liking.

ROBOCOP603 MASTER OF BLACK HOLES

Considering that this is meant to be a less than over the top revamp it is very nice, and this form mostly suits his character nicely in my opinion. Btw, I like what you did to make his front torso armor like that! Simple, but effective!

Thanks RC It was a bit of a challenge to find a way to make him look beefier than a regular old inika without getting too involved.

I like the shaping on him.

Quoting Cyan King mmmmm the only thing that gives off a real strong Onua vibe to me is the legs, they're something i would expect on a moc of Gali, but at the same time, they're on Onua, which works. the arms feel a tad bit short, and really thin, those could use some improvement, with a bit of lengthening and bulk. the inka torso is well done for something with no waist posing, to be honest, i think if you added waist posing to him, and gave him mahri tubes connecting to his pelvis, that would ride up his torso, and connect elsewhere, while being held down somehow, and retain a bulky hunchback appearance, it would look alot more like the original torso, but im going off on a tangent here the head is the only thing i really dislike, and its only for the thinness and googly eyes.
I agree with most of that. The head I like. I reused this technique on Aumangea and Tipuna later on. It does make his eyes look googly and weird. Its something to do with the angle of that particular mask and the angle at which the light from behind hits the trans studs that make up his eyes. I found this is a problem with certain masks and using studs, but can be reduced or eliminated when using barraki eyes instead. As for the other stuff you mentioned, one thing to remember is that this was A) supposed to be an inika build, B) and most importantly, its supposed to be an all black MOC. The Mahri tube idea didn't work for me then as I only have one in black and its on Aqualia, and it doesn't work for me now for the same reason. This was always intended to be a simple build. You've seen plenty of my MOCs, you probably know that I like articulation. No shoulder or hip articulation irks me to no end, but I had to forgo those features to retain the nature and intention of the build.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Very nice. I like the forearms technique, with a 3x pin you could give him forearm-mounted weapons :)
Thanks Yuri. I could, but that would be veering off the path of this being a simpler revamp of Onua Mata. That's the kinda thing I think would work better if I were doing a more elaborate revamp of him, but this one was pretty simplistic, so there's just no room for that kind of additional feature.
