Outpost Research Tower
An ORRT operations HUB. A reworking and expansion of my earlier watch tower MOC. Also introducing my very own C3PO and R2D2 droid pairing - I give you Hats-Berg (the tall one) and Bronte (the short one).

Great integration of the castle parts into the mountain. I like the red space scooter too. My favourite thing is the big robot.

Quoting Tim C I find myself always expecting to see something new from you every time I log on. You never disappoint, David. A nice revisitation to the Research Tower. You can definitely see your growth as a builder in this one. A lot more greebling to look at, some great land work. I like the interior of the tower and the classic spaceship. My favorite part is Hats-Burg and Bronte. I got the Bronte reference, though I had no idea which one, and the closest I could get for the other was the House of Hapsburg, but I had no idea the significance of the reference. Oh well, you keep me guessing. Great work, David.
Thanks Tim, getting half he reference is good going, in some ways they really aren't meant to be worked out.

Quoting MortalSwordsman . Love it. Even the watch tower has a robot feel to it. Hats-Berg and Bronte are brilliant. This was my original comment before I read the comments below: Is there a literature reference with these names? I can totally see the 3PO and R2 connection, but to me, Hats-Berg has an Eastern feel to him and Bronte also reminds me of a Gong Droid (from Starwars). Your creations always put a smile on my face and I am forever trying to find other connections/references in your work. Maybe it is just your artistic/creative flare or maybe it is just me reading too much into things. Anyway I will stop talking now. This is my revised comment: Cool build ;).
I do enjoy leaving little hints at other layers of meaning in my MOCs. I'm glad they keep you guessing and thinking :)

No no no, they've got it all wrong. The big droid looks like he's from The Black Hole! Nice set here, Dude!

Quoting Gale Winthrope The detailing is just perfect. I like that little speeder/ship thing. Very nicely done on that. But what steals the show for me, is the droids. I have fond memories making a bunch of random robots as a kid, so I'm a sucker for cute little robots :3
The robots were built first, the base is just a background for the little guys.

Quoting Alex Jean Is the swivel thing supposed to be a defence turret or a ship?
It's a space launch pad for a little hopper. These were pretty common features of many early classic space sets.

Quoting StoveTop Creator Great build! Hey regarding secrets... is there some code or inference we're supposed to get from the names of the droids? I'm not a art history type, more a science/math type. You had me searching all over the net today! Only thing I could find... 'finishing the hat'. And seems to me you are always doing this with your prolific building! (But you could add a feather, flower, or jewel to it... details, details!) I don't get the Bronte connection? Please 'splain, I is not so astoot in this department! :)
My naming of things is pretty random. Bronte is named after one of the Bronte sisters, but which one? Clue: she's telepathic (that's a Jane Eyre reference - not that common for a classic space MOC. It was more for me than actually expecting anyone to get it). Hats-Berg is an alteration of Habsburg (to emphasise his hat head). He's a soil and land analysis droid, and the Habsburg reference relates to the Habsburg Robot Patent a peasant labour tax http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_Patent. Another bizzare link made from some obscure knowledge I have. At the end of it all Hats-Berg and Bronte sounded right for the two of them.

Quoting Chris Melby I really like how some of the hardware matches the red space dudes! It gives it "AN OFFICIAL" look, like its a secret project or something! Cool Z
I've actively started to use red spacemen only; you are right the match with the red hardware gives a corporate vibe, or perhaps a Bond villan's army.
